A demigod daughter of Athena, Percy's closest friend and a fierce fighter and strategist. She stands at the center of the defense of Manhattan and remains Percy's anchor to his own humanity through the ordeal ahead, while old feelings for Luke and growing feelings for Percy both press on her.

The god of the sea and Percy's father. His own undersea kingdom is under assault by the Titan Oceanus, forcing him to fight a separate war and limiting the help he can give his son. Proud and distant, he nonetheless shows real care for Percy.

A demigod daughter of Aphrodite and the kind head counselor of her cabin, in love with Charles Beckendorf. Warm and well-liked, she is deeply shaken by the war's early losses and struggles with grief as the fighting spreads.

The lord of the Underworld and god of the dead, brother of Poseidon and Zeus. Resentful that his children and his domain are slighted by the other gods, he holds an old grudge and is at first unwilling to commit his power to the defense of Olympus, keeping his own counsel as war looms.

A demigod daughter of Ares and a formidable warrior. Proud and hot-tempered, she keeps her cabin out of the battle at first over a bitter dispute about honor, even as the other demigods fight and fall without them, a stance that costs the defenders dearly.
