The Legacy

By J.D. Franx

The first entry in The Darkness Within Saga opens as the kingdom's only archwizard, Gideon, foresees that an imminent Black Sun will produce a death wizard, a being the law requires killed at birth. When his own newborn son is born during the eclipse, Gideon defies that law, carrying the infant through a dimensional bridge into a nonmagical world and naming him Kale, then returns alone as the bridge collapses, costing the lives of those who held it open. Twenty years later, the adult Kale is a married jeweler's apprentice on Earth with no knowledge of his origins when a black vortex drags him back to Talona with his wife Ember and their friend Max, awakening the very powers he was exiled to avoid. Stranded and separated from Ember and Max, Kale must find his way while Gideon leads the search for him, outwardly to bring him home, privately prepared to kill him if the law's fears prove true.
