Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.

Annabeth Chase (Protagonist)

Appears from the start

A daughter of Athena and a veteran Greek demigod, sharp, proud, and a gifted architect and strategist. After months of searching she is about to be reunited with her missing boyfriend, Percy Jackson, as the Greek warship carries her to the Roman camp. Level-headed under pressure, she leads with logic and planning, but she also carries a private task from her mother that she must undertake alone, a dangerous inheritance that troubles the children of Athena.

Percy Jackson (Protagonist)

Appears from the start

A son of the sea god and hero of the earlier Percy Jackson stories, his memory now fully restored. Having spent the previous book among the Roman demigods, he is a made praetor of their legion, but his heart belongs to the Greek camp and to Annabeth. Brave, loyal, and powerful over water, he serves as a bridge between the two camps even as their old mistrust threatens to boil over.

Jason Grace (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A son of the sky god and a former praetor of the Roman camp, disciplined and steady, with power over wind and lightning. Having recovered his memory in the previous book, he now stands between two worlds, trusted by the Romans yet committed to the joint quest with the Greeks. He tries to keep the fragile alliance together while wrestling with where he truly belongs.

Piper McLean (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A daughter of Aphrodite whose persuasive charmspeak can sway others with her voice. Practical and brave, she has grown into her powers and into her place among the demigods since discovering her heritage. Loyal to Jason and to her friends, she uses her gift and her level head to defuse danger, though she is unsettled by ominous visions of what may lie ahead on the voyage.

Leo Valdez (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A son of Hephaestus, inventive and quick with a joke, who built and now captains the flying warship Argo II. Able to summon and control fire, he keeps the vessel running and improvises machines for every crisis. His humor masks a lingering loneliness, and he feels the odd one out as the only member of the crew without a partner.

Hazel Levesque (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A daughter of Pluto from the Roman camp who can call precious metals and jewels from the earth. Gentle and brave, she has come to terms with a past that once haunted her and joins the joint quest as one of the seven. She is close to Frank and to Nico, and her underworld heritage gives her insight into dangers the others cannot sense.

Frank Zhang (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A son of Mars from the Roman camp, a strong archer with a rare gift for changing his shape into animals. Loyal and increasingly confident since proving himself, he guards a secret weakness: his life is tied to a fragile piece of wood. Devoted to Hazel and to his duty, he brings steady courage to the crew.

Reyna (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A praetor of the Roman camp and daughter of a war goddess, disciplined, proud, and protective of her legion. She receives the Greek warship and its crew warily, hoping the two camps can find peace but braced for betrayal. Burdened by the responsibility of leadership, she must decide how far to trust the Greeks she has been raised to distrust.

Nico di Angelo (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A brooding son of the underworld god who commands the dead and travels through shadows, known from the earlier stories. Solitary and secretive, he moves between the Greek and Roman worlds and knows more of the underworld's secrets than he shares. His whereabouts become a matter of urgency as the quest turns toward the ancient lands.

Gleeson Hedge (Supporting)

Also known as Coach Hedge

Appears from the start

The gruff, club-swinging satyr who serves as the crew's adult chaperone aboard the Argo II. Hot-tempered and always spoiling for a fight, he takes his protective duties seriously beneath the bluster, guarding the young demigods and enforcing a semblance of discipline on the voyage.

Gaea (Antagonist)

Also known as Gaia

Appears from the start

The primordial earth goddess, the sleeping enemy behind the demigods' peril. Speaking through dreams and the ground itself, she works to wake her monstrous children, the giants, and to spill enough demigod blood to rouse herself fully. Her servants harry the crew across sea and land as she draws nearer to waking in the ancient heart of the old world.
