Holly is socially anxious, exacting with facts, and experienced with events that fall outside ordinary criminal explanations. Alec brings her into the Maitland inquiry because the conflicting evidence requires an investigator without local assumptions.

Claude Bolton's mother, with whom he is staying in Texas. Lovie is protective of her son and familiar with local stories surrounding the abandoned cave system known as the Marysville Hole.
