The Price of Power

The second book in the Infinite Realm series follows two former friends on diverging paths after their world's takeover by the Framework. Zach, training as a Warden in Haven, advances his rare Blademaster class, bonds with an awakened sword named Mistral, joins a dungeon team, and separately begins investigating a string of unsolved murders committed by an unidentified nonhuman killer stalking the city. Sent on a different mission to investigate the destruction of an eastern city, Zach discovers that its destroyer was Ryun, his old friend, who retaliated after a corrupt governor abused his people and killed someone he loved; the two part on hostile terms when Zach urges him to submit to a public reckoning and Ryun refuses to recognize the government's authority. Meanwhile, as head of the fragile Twilight Melody Sect, Ryun works to rebuild trust among his people and navigates hidden political factions ahead of an approaching monster swarm.
