The Revenge of Seven characters

By Pittacus Lore

Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.

John Smith (Protagonist)

Also known as Number Four

Appears from the start

The fourth of the nine, holding together a group that has just lost one of its members and been betrayed by another. He has stopped treating the war as something to survive and started treating it as something to win, which makes him harder on the people around him and on himself. His Legacies are now broad enough that he is the group's most flexible fighter, and his priorities are recovering Ella and finding out what the Mogadorians are actually building on Earth.

Ella (Protagonist)

Also known as Number Ten

Appears from the start

The youngest Garde, one of the book's narrators, and a prisoner aboard Setrakus Ra's warship. She is not being tortured or killed, which frightens her more than either would: she is being talked to, taught, and shown things, and she is expected to agree with them. Her Legacies reach minds and dreams, and they are the only way she has of doing anything at all from inside a Mogadorian ship.

Adam (Protagonist)

First appears in chapter 4

A young Mogadorian, son of a senior officer, and one of the book's narrators. As a boy he was used in an experiment that connected his mind to that of a dead Garde, and he has carried her memories and her point of view ever since, along with an earth-shaking Legacy no Mogadorian should have. That inheritance turned him against everything he was raised in. He has spent years surviving alone between the two sides, and he knows the Mogadorian order, its installations, and its plans from the inside.

Number One (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 4

The first of the nine, killed years before the Garde ever met each other. She survives in this book as the presence in Adam's mind, the source of his memories of Lorien and of the conscience that made him break with his own people. Through him she is the closest thing to a witness the Garde have to their own earliest losses.

Marina (Supporting)

Also known as Number Seven

First appears in chapter 2

The seventh of the nine, and a different person since the Everglades. Grief has given her a Legacy of lethal cold and taken away most of her patience; she is now among the most dangerous of the Garde rather than its healer. She wants Number Five, and everyone around her knows it.

Number Six (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 2

The sixth of the nine, invisible when she chooses and able to call down weather. She is the group's best soldier and its most willing to operate independently, and she takes on the missions that require going somewhere dangerous with almost no support.

Number Nine (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 2

The ninth of the nine, whose Chicago base and resources have kept the group operating. Fast, strong, and able to move along any surface, he is more use than ever now that the war has turned into raids on fortified positions, and no more inclined to caution than he ever was.

Number Five (Antagonist)

First appears in chapter 8

The fifth of the nine, who killed Number Eight and went over to the Mogadorians, and who lost an eye to Marina doing it. He can fly and can take on the properties of whatever he touches. He is now on the enemy's side of the war, with the Garde's own knowledge of how they operate.

Sam Goode (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 2

John's human friend, who has been in this war since Ohio without a single Legacy to show for it. He handles the group's technology and research alongside his father and refuses to be left behind on any operation, which is a standing argument he mostly wins.

Malcolm Goode (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 2

Sam's father, whose recovered memories of meeting the Loric ships in 1980 and hiding the children who arrived on them are now the group's best source of intelligence about what the Loric left on Earth. He works the research side of the war rather than the fighting side.

Sarah Hart (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 2

John's girlfriend from Paradise, fully part of the group's operations now. She has no powers, trains and fights anyway, and is one of the few people John will still take advice from.

Setrakus Ra (Antagonist)

Appears from the start

The Mogadorian leader. He has Ella aboard his ship and is spending time on her personally rather than disposing of her, and what he wants from the Garde has changed: he is preparing to be seen by the human world rather than to keep operating out of caves and disguised compounds.

Bernie Kosar (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 2

The Chimaera who has guarded John since Lorien, able to take any animal's shape. He is no longer the only one of his kind the Garde know about.
