The castle's ruler betrays its own neutrality, imprisoning Zach in a Ra'azel-derived formation in exchange for promised knowledge. Naha senses his danger through their true link and recruits Ryun's wolf-like emissary for a covert rescue. They locate Zach beneath the castle, break the prison, and confront the Grand Spirit of Knowledge. The spirit argues that Ra'azel's teachings could let spirits surpass their fixed natures and refuses peaceful withdrawal. Zach, Naha, and the emissary defeat the castle's defenders. Zach kills Knowledge, absorbs its essence into his soul weapon, and becomes the castle's recognized master, gaining the ability to transfer knowledge through contact. He begins considering the castle as part of the school he hopes to build. The Grand Spirit of Horror then approaches Naha separately with an offer of power.

Ryun and Nayra reach War's immense training camp and learn spirit smithing while assessing a possible alliance against Ra'azel. Transition and Mysteries secretly contact them and reveal that War plans to summon her whole army into the real realm, remain there, and grow stronger through continuing conflict. The two grand spirits cannot oppose War directly, so they ask Ryun and Nayra to investigate the real-realm bargain and stop it. Ryun chooses to prevent the summoning. Transition brings the pair to the Prison of Ages, where its warden confirms that Ra'azel was once held for violating the Dealmaker's rules. Ryun studies Ra'azel's old cell, discovers that its containment is woven from pure aspects, and removes the structure for later adaptation. Ryun and Nayra enter the warrior afterlife, where Nayra meets her dead brother Nathan and begins seeking deeper mastery of death. Zach returns from the Castle of Knowledge without Naha and struggles with uncontrolled fragments of information from his new power. He sends a Warden force, Hero, and Kri to support another dome operation, where Tali and an allied commander conceal part of their real plan. The Golden Sky sect attacks the Living Forest dome, but toxins, vines, and roots turn the surrounding territory into an extension of the threat. Tali intervenes to save the attackers even though she intends to confront their sect head over an old betrayal. The Golden Sky leader destroys the dome monster by manifesting a furious Ideal, killing some of her own weaker people in the process. With the battlefield hidden from outside observation, Tali moves against the exhausted leader. Kael's covert team watches and prepares to exploit the duel for Ra'azel. The dome is defeated, but the hidden conflict among its victors has only begun.

Tali's opponent removes a ring that had sealed part of her soul and power, becoming a far more dangerous black-fire combatant. Tali and her ally Sigmund fight inside a concealed domain, but both are gravely injured. Tali shatters the sky itself to land a catastrophic blow, only for the enemy to answer with a final eruption of black fire. Sigmund spends his remaining will to shield Tali and disappears along with their opponent. Tali survives exhausted and blames her pursuit of revenge for his apparent death. Outside the concealment, Zach contains the dome's spreading effects until Kael's Minotaur space specialist holds him immobile. Zach challenges the Minotaur's claim that the Unchained protect the weak by abducting and punishing powerful people, and his words deepen the fighter's doubts. Kael's group ambushes the injured Tali, seals her powers with runes, and takes her alive for Ra'azel's experiments. Tali remains a prisoner.

Ra'azel accepts Tali as a subject while the Minotaur's guilt and suspicion of his hidden runes increase. In the warrior afterlife, Nayra joins its battlefield with Nathan and discovers that raw strength cannot replace refined aspect mastery. Six ancient fighters, including Nathan, defeat Ryun and Nayra through coordination and precision, then achieve a final breakthrough and pass onward through the great Wheel. Nathan asks Nayra to help their living brother and to carry his love back to the family. Ryun follows a call of true death to a warrior who has abandoned hope of ever advancing. By reaching into Oblivion, Ryun concludes that true death is a final passage beyond the present order, distinct from the Wheel's route, rather than simple annihilation. The willing warrior accepts that end. An afterlife guardian recognizes Ryun as the Reaper, expels him for the act, and bars him from returning there with Nayra. Nayra nevertheless gains the final class she sought, becoming a chooser and herald of those slain in battle.

On returning from the afterlife, Ryun learns that Tali was captured alive and has been missing for nearly two weeks. The Dealmaker confirms her survival but demands an impossible price for her location. He also confirms that Ryun and Selia inherited the paired aspects of True Death. Eratemus cannot locate Tali, but his intelligence network identifies an Unchained courier contact. Ryun races across the continent and captures the operative, learning that the Unchained plan to open all remaining domes at once in hopes of breaking the current order. The prisoner refuses to reveal Tali's location. After days of failed coercion, Ryun kills her and loses control of his wrath, devastating the surrounding region. Selia reaches him through their shared nature, and the pair forge the Bearer of Enduring Scorn from blood, soul, and emotion. The new growth spirit becomes Ryun's adaptive shell and stabilizes him. Their bond deepens around endurance and burden. Selia then finds one remaining lead: a former League infiltrator imprisoned by the Exalted Empire, which has denied her request for access.

Ryun assaults the Exalted Empire prison, destroys its defenses, and frees the former League infiltrator from a suppressing collar. The rescued Ravzur says the Unchained operate from a mobile mountain fortress concealed among clouds, which he can follow through a mark left during an earlier visit. Selia arrives with Nayra, Zach, Naha, Eratemus in Zenker's repaired body, and their gravity-focused partner. During the journey south, the group develops a provisional theory that instability comes from dissonance among focuses, skills, and the soul rather than a fixed numerical limit.

Selia, Zach, Nayra, Eratemus, and the gravity fighter engage the base's strongest combatants while Ryun and Naha search separately. Naha finds reaction engines but no captive in the town. Ryun moves through the fortress in an Oblivion state until a storm-wielding defender detects him near Ra'azel's sealed tower. The defender repeatedly destroys Ryun's manifested vessels, but Ryun adapts, kills him, and breaches the tower. In the wider battle, Nayra's death aegis is exhausted, Zach is driven to stop restraining himself, and the Unchained leader uses the Minotaur's spatial control to evade decisive attacks. Ra'azel leaves his workshop and joins the conflict, seeing new opponents as potential sources of power. The rescue force still has not confirmed Tali's location, but the sealed tower is now the only unsearched place capable of hiding her.

The battle divides around Ra'azel and the Unchained leader. Ra'azel uses stolen abilities and soul grafts, including Tali's sky power, confirming that he has harvested pieces of her. Selia and the gravity fighter kill two Unchained opponents, while Nayra and Eratemus keep Ra'azel occupied. Zach seals the leader's access to chi and overwhelms him, but the leader begins a soul-consuming attack that would destroy the town below. The Minotaur finally accepts that the cause no longer justifies its methods. When he cannot move the unstable attack away, he turns on his commander, collapses space around him, and kills him. He then tells Zach that the captive is inside Ra'azel's fortress tower. The beam consumes Zach's hand and lower arm as he holds it back long enough to save the civilians. Ra'azel traps Zach in a time loop and Naha in a prison of light, then uses a stolen reality-breaking attack that sends the town-bearing section of the island falling. The Minotaur evacuates the population, while an unexplained ripple from Ryun begins rewriting the battlefield.

Ryun enters Ra'azel's tower and finds Tali alive but catastrophically altered. Her captor has removed powers and pieces of body, soul, memory, and identity. Ordinary Oblivion can erase the damage but cannot supply what is missing. Ryun reaches beyond the constrained Oblivion plane to its truer form, remaking the plane and its Way into something vast enough to reverse the physical consequences of Tali's captivity. To restore her soul, he burns out Ayin and sacrifices a piece of himself. Tali becomes physically and spiritually whole enough to send home, but remains unconscious and shows no thought or emotion. The rescue team carries her to Twilight Melody's healers. Ryun's transformation also strips away the abilities that Ra'azel acquired through grafting and briefly erases his memory of them. Ryun then assumes the Reaper form and turns back toward the battle. Ra'azel realizes that Ryun has changed reality itself and seeks that power even as the transformed Ryun strips away his physical and construct-based advantages.

Eratemus moves to finish the weakened Ra'azel, but the runesmith abandons his body, invades Zenker's restored vessel, and destroys Eratemus's soul. Selia is briefly overtaken by the Scythe aspect as Ryun's wrath creates the Last Forest, an isolated domain that separates combatants and suppresses their usual aspect links. Selia and the gravity fighter reach Ryun and restore his present identity before the Reaper's rage consumes him. Ryun and Selia remember that they were once the Reaper and Scythe, yet choose to remain distinct people. They share part of their bond with their third partner, forming three Eternal Hunters without erasing her identity. Ra'azel flees through the forest and tries to carve an escape path while the hunters pursue him. Zach breaks through the domain's isolation by reaching time and then wind, reunites with Naha, and joins the confrontation. The group refuses Ra'azel another chance after his exploitation of those he claimed to free, but he continues burning irreplaceable portions of his soul to resist them.

Ra'azel maims several attackers and repeatedly changes the Last Forest around them, but each use of soul-burning runes permanently diminishes him. Ryun, Selia, and their third partner shape a shared Way of True Death without surrendering their separate meanings. Ryun embodies the End, Selia legacy, and the gravity fighter reliability. Their growing authorities blind and disorient Ra'azel, make his defenses fail, and bring him near death. Ra'azel's history is exposed: once Azel Equinar, he mastered the old Framework, invented runesmithing, and forced peace among his people before betrayal and imprisonment reduced him to a shade. Ryun invokes the End against his stolen body, but Ra'azel spends more of his soul to breach the Last Forest and return to the Infinite Realm. He seals the passage before pursuit is possible. Ra'azel survives severely depleted and impaired, still occupying Zenker's body. The hunters have defeated him without ending the threat, and their own rapid transformation continues beyond what the present world is prepared to contain.

The collapse of the Last Forest triggers an attempted ascension for Ryun, Selia, and their third partner. An Overseer stops it, and the Dealmaker explains that inherited memories from another reality let the three evolve too quickly. Their premature rise could provoke a higher intervention that resets reality, so he requires secrecy and restricts their access to the axioms they have permanently claimed. Ryun becomes the Shard of the End and gains the Ways of Oblivion and True Death, but confirms that saving Tali permanently erased one skill anchored to his soul.
