The Tower of the Elephant characters
Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.
Conan (Protagonist)
Appears from the start
A young Cimmerian newly come to the cities of the south, making his living as a thief while retaining the directness and alertness of a wilderness fighter. A tavern tale about an impossible jewel and an impregnable tower draws him to test both his courage and his skill.
The Kothian rogue (Minor)
Appears from the start
A boastful foreigner drinking in a Zamorian tavern. He explains that the Elephant's Heart is a fabulous gem kept in Yara's tower and mocks Conan for asking how it might be stolen, turning a drunken argument into the challenge that sends Conan toward the tower.
Yara (Antagonist)
Appears from the start
A feared sorcerer whose jeweled tower rises above Arenjun. He is said to possess the Elephant's Heart and to command powers that make ordinary thieves avoid his grounds.
Taurus (Supporting)
Also known as Prince of Thieves
First appears in chapter 2
A renowned Nemedian thief whom Conan meets inside Yara's garden. Older, urbane, and well equipped, he has spent months planning the same robbery. He readily proposes a partnership when Conan reaches the supposedly inaccessible grounds by instinct and athletic skill.
Yag-kosha (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 3
A vast, blind being with a humanlike body and an elephant's head, found chained in the upper chamber of the tower. Though strange and physically imposing, he speaks gently to Conan and identifies himself as a captive from the distant green planet Yag rather than as a beast or demon.
