Tik-Tok of Oz recap

Queen Ann leads the absurdly officer-heavy army of Oogaboo out to conquer the world. Elsewhere, shipwrecked Betsy Bobbin and her mule Hank join the Shaggy Man, Polychrome, and Tik-Tok on a mission to rescue the Shaggy Man's brother from Ruggedo, the Nome King. Ruggedo drops the travelers through the Hollow Tube to the far side of the world, where Tititi-Hoochoo sends the dragon Quox to punish him. Quox defeats Ruggedo, Kaliko becomes Nome King, and the prisoner is freed. A kiss removes the enchantment that made the Shaggy Man's brother hide his face. Queen Ann gains no empire, but her company reaches Oz safely. Betsy and Hank accept a home with Ozma, Polychrome returns to the rainbow, and the Shaggy Man's family is reunited.

The Shaggy Man and Tik-Tok are friends of Ozma living in Oz, and Polychrome once traveled there with Dorothy. Beneath the earth, the Nome ruler Ruggedo has repeatedly opposed Ozma and her companions. Though defeated before, he again controls the Nome Kingdom and still holds the Shaggy Man's brother prisoner.

Queen Ann Soforth of tiny Oogaboo appoints nearly every able man an officer and leaves Private Files as the army's only ordinary soldier. She marches out to conquer the world, but magic and unfamiliar country quickly frustrate the campaign. Far away, Betsy Bobbin and her mule Hank survive a shipwreck and reach the Rose Kingdom, where living roses object to mortal intruders. Queen Ann's army arrives in the same region. The flower people drive the outsiders away, and the travelers escape with Princess Ozga, whose future is now tied to the wandering company.

Betsy and Hank meet the Shaggy Man, who is searching for the brother Ruggedo has imprisoned, and Polychrome, who has again fallen from her father's rainbow. Tik-Tok joins them as Ozma's mechanical helper. Their route brings them to the Nome Kingdom, where Ruggedo refuses to surrender his captive. Rather than face the whole company fairly, the Nome King opens the Hollow Tube and sends the travelers falling through the earth. They emerge on the opposite side of the world in a realm governed by powerful fairies, far from both Oz and the prisoner they hoped to rescue.

The stranded travelers are welcomed by Queen Erma and brought before Tititi-Hoochoo, the Great Jinjin. After hearing how Ruggedo used the Hollow Tube and continues to hold the Shaggy Man's brother, Tititi-Hoochoo sends the young dragon Quox to deliver judgment. Quox and the travelers pass back through the tube into the Nome Kingdom. Ruggedo boasts that the fairies cannot frighten him, but Quox carries magical gifts chosen especially to overcome the Nome King's powers and the particular fears of his subjects. The rescue party is now back beneath the earth with a protector Ruggedo cannot easily dismiss.

Quox defeats Ruggedo and ends his rule. Kaliko becomes Nome King and releases the Shaggy Man's brother from the metal forest. Ruggedo's spell has made the prisoner hide his ugly face, but a kind kiss breaks the enchantment and restores him. Ruggedo loses his throne and temporarily gives up his wicked conduct. Queen Ann wins no empire, though Private Files and Princess Ozga find a happier future together. The company reaches Oz, where Dorothy welcomes Betsy and Ozma offers both Betsy and Hank a permanent home. They accept, while Polychrome returns to the rainbow and the Shaggy Man settles in Oz with his rescued brother.

Quox carries out Tititi-Hoochoo's judgment against Ruggedo, using the fairy gifts entrusted to him to overcome the Nome King. Kaliko becomes king and proves willing to release the Shaggy Man's brother from the metal forest. The rescued man is ashamed of the ugly face Ruggedo's enchantment gave him, but a kindly kiss breaks the spell and restores his natural appearance. Ruggedo loses his throne and, for the time being, abandons his hostility. Queen Ann's attempted conquest ends without an empire, while Private Files and Princess Ozga find happiness together. The travelers reach Oz, where Dorothy is delighted to meet Betsy. Ozma offers Betsy and Hank a permanent home, and they accept. Polychrome eventually returns to the rainbow, and the Shaggy Man is reunited with his brother in a country where both can live among friends.
