A scarred, heavy-drinking old sailor who lodges at the Admiral Benbow and pays Jim to watch for a one-legged seaman. His sea chest and fear of former shipmates bring danger to the inn.

The one-legged landlord of the Spy-glass tavern, hired as the Hispaniola's cook. Cheerful, capable, and persuasive, he wins Jim's confidence and seems to handle the sudden appearance of Black Dog with open concern.
Captain Smollett (Supporting)

The professional captain of the Hispaniola. He dislikes the loose way the expedition's purpose has become common knowledge and insists that the weapons, powder, and trusted passengers be placed where they can be defended.
Israel Hands (Antagonist)

An experienced seaman who takes part in Silver's secret discussion of the planned mutiny. He served as a gunner under Captain Flint and supports waiting until the treasure is aboard before turning on the loyal party.
Ben Gunn (Supporting)

A former member of Captain Flint's crew who has been marooned alone on Treasure Island for three years. Ragged and eager for human company, he offers Jim help in exchange for a safe passage home and a share of wealth.
Abraham Gray (Supporting)

One of the Hispaniola's sailors, pressured to join the mutiny. When Captain Smollett calls on the wavering crewmen to choose, Gray breaks away from the mutineers and reaches the loyal party at the stockade.
George Merry (Antagonist)
First appears in chapter 28
A mutineer in the party occupying the stockade after Jim's return to it. He openly challenges Silver's leadership and demands that the pirates judge whether their captain has betrayed their interests.
