Atticus's Irish wolfhound and telepathic companion. Oberon's familiar concerns about food and dogs provide continuity while the small household abandons its old life and moves into an unfamiliar landscape.

Atticus's apprentice, still early in a demanding education and not yet bound to the earth as a full Druid. She shares the danger created by his enemies and insists on taking an active part in the decisions required to keep them hidden.

The Irish battle goddess, whose knowledge of death makes her central to Atticus's attempt to persuade other gods that he has died. Her assistance is powerful, exacting, and shaped by purposes she does not fully share.

A Native American trickster with immense power over the land. He offers Atticus a refuge and a task in the Southwest, but prior experience has taught the Druid that Coyote's stated problem is unlikely to be the complete one.

A Navajo medicine man whose spiritual knowledge complements Atticus's Druidic practice. He understands both the local land and the nature of the shapeshifting evil threatening people near Coyote's project.

The escaped Norse trickster whose freedom followed the damage surrounding Atticus's assault on Asgard. Unbound and hostile, he represents a consequence much larger than the vengeance of Thor's surviving allies.
