Ugly Love characters

By Colleen Hoover

Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.

Tate Collins (Protagonist)

Appears from the start

A registered nurse who moves into her brother's San Francisco apartment while pursuing an advanced nursing degree. Practical and self-directed, Tate expects the arrangement to be temporary until her first encounter with the withdrawn pilot across the hall unsettles her plans.

Miles Archer (Protagonist)

Appears from the start

An airline pilot and close friend of Tate's brother. Tate first finds Miles intoxicated and collapsed outside the apartment, then discovers that his usual manner is quiet, controlled, and difficult to read. His visible distress suggests a history he refuses to discuss.

Corbin Collins (Supporting)

Appears from the start

Tate's older brother, an airline pilot who lets her stay in his apartment. Protective and often away for work, Corbin trusts Miles as a close friend but is wary of the other pilots who show interest in his sister.

Cap (Supporting)

Appears from the start

An elderly man who works the elevator in Corbin's apartment building and dreams of becoming a pilot. Cap's patient humor and attention make him an easy confidant for Tate as she adjusts to the building and its guarded residents.

Ian (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 3

Miles's fellow pilot and longtime friend. Ian knows Miles well enough to recognize the force of the past beneath his reserve, and he offers loyalty without pressing him to disclose more than he can bear.

Rachel (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 2

A girl Miles meets during his final year of high school, six years before Tate's arrival. Rachel is immediately compelling to him, and their attraction grows even as changes in their parents' lives threaten to make it complicated.

Miles's Father (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 4

Miles's father, a widower beginning a serious relationship six years before the main story. His hope of rebuilding a family brings happiness into the household while creating an unexpected conflict for Miles.

Lisa (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 6

Rachel's mother and the woman Miles's father loves. Her relationship with him draws the two teenagers' households together and forces Miles and Rachel to reconsider a bond that began before they understood their parents' intentions.

Dillon (Minor)

First appears in chapter 7

A married pilot in Corbin's circle who persistently directs unwanted attention toward Tate. His casual disregard for boundaries makes him someone she avoids rather than a possible romantic interest.
