In short (whole book)
Max, Tanila, and their five fellow former climbers become gods and found a shared world, but Max's earlier victories end his protection and force him into arena conflicts. He defeats a rock god and a falcon god, accepts a crow god's surrender, and survives a far stronger leviathan while losing an allied goddess. As the founders build linked societies, Max and Tanila's exceptional daughter survives an awakening trap set by Death, bonds permanently with a young red dragon, and later loses three party members on Tower floor 55 before rebuilding her team. Max also returns secretly to his original world to say goodbye to his dying mother. In the final arena challenge, he bluffs a void god with an imitation black-hole bomb and wins its surrender. Max reaches tier four, the other founders reach tier three, and the group delays cross-realm travel while preparing for tier-five defenses and a coming conflict involving the three black skills and the Nine.
Previously, in earlier books (earlier books)
Previously: Max and his companions survived the Tower together and emerged as champions. The group includes Tanila, Batrire, Fowl, Cordelia, Rakonath, a bound demon companion, and Bob, the black skill bonded to Max. Their shared history has made them a family as well as a fighting party. Max and Tanila are married, while Max's bonds with Rakonath and the demon companion allow them to share some benefits of his growth. The companions represent humans, elves, dwarves, demons, and dragons, but continue to act as one group after the climb. Those relationships now carry into a new stage in which the former climbers must create and protect peoples of their own. Their strength is collective, and the survival of each member remains bound to the choices made by the others.
Story so far - through chapter 5 (this book)
The seven former climbers create a seed world under System 401, linking each founder to a people whose growth can generate divine points. Their rabbit-shaped helper explains that the group has three centuries of protection, but arena victories can transfer worlds and divine wealth. Tanila gives birth to her and Max's daughter, whose unusual connection to System magic immediately worries the family. The helper then discovers that Max's past champion kills have already ended his personal protection. He must answer an arena challenge within a week. Max grants his human bloodline to a chosen king and prepares to conceal the scale of his power. In the arena, he tests an experienced rock-bodied god before destroying him with a weapon especially effective against gods. Max refuses an offer of worlds in exchange for mercy and completes the kill, learning that Consume can take divine abilities, essence, or statistics. The decision gives him his first victory as a god but also deepens the danger surrounding Bob's power.
Story so far - through chapter 13 (this book)
Max's victory brings ten worlds, millions of divine points, major betting gains, and several upgrades. He spends part of the reward on long-term improvements to soil and population growth while the founders plan how to reach the safety of higher tiers. They decide to develop their peoples through teaching, crafting, dungeons, and a future hero program. Max trains human bakers and smiths. The bound demon companion rejects his people's culture of internal violence and establishes enforceable rules for cooperation. Fowl and Batrire organize the dwarves around craft, aid, and responsible use of resources. Rakonath forms the dragons into a restrained, defensive society, and Cordelia creates Ember Grove as an open elven capital focused on knowledge and mutual protection. Max and Tanila then establish the mixed human-elven city under rules that place public welfare above divine authority. They crown the bloodline heir as its mortal king and give him a divine spark, leaving each major society with a clearer structure and common purpose.
Story so far - through chapter 19 (this book)
The System helper reveals how earlier gods abused and killed him. Max and Tanila offer friendship, and he begins treating the founders as people he can trust. The group studies the costs and protections of higher divine tiers, then Max answers a request from one of his acquired worlds. In an underwater city, a neighboring aquatic goddess asks him to help defend two linked peoples from a tier-seven leviathan. She recognizes Max as a black-skill holder but accepts his claim that he does not seek indiscriminate destruction. When the invasion begins, Max uses prepared defenses and repeated lightning attacks to destroy thousands of lesser attackers. The two gods remain locked in a domain battle for eleven days. When the domain falls, Max tries to rescue the mortally wounded goddess, but the leviathan kills him during his escape. A death-prevention skill returns Max alive to Tanila and the helper, while the goddess is lost. Max survives with a sharper understanding of how completely stronger gods can overpower him.
Story so far - through chapter 29 (this book)
Nearly two years into godhood, Max and Tanila's daughter is developing with unnatural speed. The founders consider another arena wager, but first Max tests demonic summoning. Instead of calling his companion, the spell carries him into the lava domain of a demon king. The summoning rules prevent the king from attacking, and his attempts leave him indebted to Max. In return for Max's restraint, the king agrees to answer a later summons and provide information. He also reveals that a higher god ordered him to protect Max's bound demon companion. Max postpones another challenge so all seven founders can grow together. Years later, he challenges a reality-altering crow god. The opponent surrenders after Max reveals that he can fly, and Max honors the surrender rather than killing for power. The resulting wealth lets the other six founders purchase bloodlines, tiers, and sparks. The group also commits to seven linked obelisks that strengthen their peoples and protect resident gods, establishing a century-long plan for shared defense and development.
Story so far - through chapter 37 (this book)
The bound demon companion creates a bloodline and chooses a disciplined six-armed heir to become demon queen. Fowl and Batrire receive their own bloodlines, appoint a married dwarf healer and fighter as mortal rulers, and empower them with sparks. Cordelia grants her trauma-resistant bloodline to an elven queen who can extend protection across Ember Grove. Rakonath organizes the dragons into a guardian flight supported by the seven obelisks and considers a red wyrmling for one of its representative sparks. Years pass. Tanila strengthens the mixed kingdom through bonded mortal rulers and a network of spark-bearers, while her daughter grows into an exceptional fighter and smith despite being unable to level normally. The daughter begins hunting monsters secretly with the red wyrmling. Max observes her skill and, with Tanila, replaces prohibition with structured limits. They give her protective equipment and permission to enter low-level dungeons with trusted companions.
Story so far - through chapter 43 (this book)
The founders prepare for the daughter's fortieth birthday and expected awakening. When she touches the awakening crystal, an unknown force begins crushing her life. Batrire cannot heal the damage, so Max uses demonic summoning to gain time and draws an immense entity into a sealed domain. Bob identifies it as Death, one of the Nine, and realizes the crisis is a trap. A protective mark prevents Death from seizing Max, while the summoning rules stop either side from escaping freely. Max refuses threats for nearly three months and uses the System's enforcement against Death. The entity finally agrees to return the daughter alive and awakened and to avoid acting against Max, his family, and his friends for twenty-five thousand years. Back outside, the daughter awakens with several abilities, including Blink and Ultimate Form, plus a skill that even the helper cannot read. Her survival resolves the immediate crisis, but her concealed power and the Nine's interest in black-skill holders remain unexplained.
Story so far - through chapter 51 (this book)
The daughter tests Ultimate Form and joins a formal five-member champion party with the red wyrmling, a demon warrior, a dwarf healer, and an elven mage. As they begin preparing for dungeons and the Tower, Max learns that four avian gods are massacring people on one of his claimed worlds. He travels there openly and relinquishes the claim after an owl-like tier-four god halts the killing. The more aggressive falcon god then challenges him in the arena. Its speed, poison, and armor-piercing feathers force Max to reveal more abilities than planned, but he kills it and gains new divine combat upgrades through Consume. The victory leaves him questioning how broadly he can protect populations without exposing his loved ones. At home, the bound demon companion discovers that a gambling enterprise he permitted has produced debt and coercion. He closes it, compensates victims, frees three lesser offenders, and accepts their public punishment himself. Both crises push the founders toward firmer limits and more accountable rule.
Story so far - through chapter 57 (this book)
The champion party defeats Max in a coordinated training exercise, then chooses to attempt two dangerous pre-Tower dungeons despite the founders' warnings. In a dragon trial, a gold dragon god offers a boon only if the group kills its red dragon member. Max's daughter refuses. An unidentified power awakens within her, lets her declare the god in breach of his own contract, and forces him to release the dragon. The two young companions accept a permanent bond that shares power and enables thought communication. The gold dragon awards the boon but says the wider game has changed. Unable to obtain answers from their helper, Max meets a trusted human god and that god's dwarven ally. Written warnings reveal that black skills are tied to a game involving the Nine and that the attention paid to Max's child is especially dangerous. The advisers urge rapid advancement. The human god also grants Max a brief, prohibited visit to his original world, where years have passed without him.
Story so far - through chapter 63 (this book)
Max returns in disguise to his former faction and learns that Tom now leads it after Everett's death. Tom protects Max's secret and sends him to his family. Max finds his parents elderly, Stacy grown and raising a family, and his mother near death. Bob briefly wakes her so Max can say goodbye before the System notices and forces him to leave. Back on the founders' world, Cordelia confronts neglect and apathy in Ember Grove and accepts that generous provision without responsibility has weakened the city. Meanwhile, the champion party reaches Tower floor 55. A shadow-like boss kills the demon mage, dwarf healer, and demon warrior before the red dragon uses an escape gem to save herself and Max's daughter. Two years of grief divide the survivors until Rakonath and Max impose boundaries and make the daughter face the harm her withdrawal is causing. She reconciles with her dragon companion, selects three replacements with her, and enters the Tower again with a rebuilt party.
Story so far - through chapter 70 (this book)
A world-eating void god repeats an earlier challenge against Max, apparently on another power's orders. Max refuses to surrender a world and seeks the reward owed by a world he once saved. Its elderly gnome caretaker cannot obtain a real anti-void weapon, but gives Max an imitation black-hole bomb that creates only a brief visual and gravitational effect. Max enters the arena with no reliable way to kill his opponent. He presents the imitation as genuine, then uses speed, teleportation, stored matter, and Bob's control of the arena sand to maintain the deception. The void god surrenders and admits that its father ordered both attacks, though it refuses to identify him. An arena official discovers the bluff afterward but agrees to secrecy if Max accepts the opponent's badly damaged world. The winnings let the other six founders reach tier three and Max reach tier four. Now Godbound, Max can perceive realm threads but cannot cross them without a transporter. The group delays portal construction until all seven possess tier-five domains, keeps sensitive plans private, and races toward tier six before the anticipated conflict among black-skill holders.
How does it end? (ending)
Max defeats the void god without a usable anti-void weapon, sustaining a fake black-hole-bomb threat until the challenger surrenders. The void god admits that its father ordered both attacks but does not identify him. Max accepts a badly damaged world and keeps the bluff secret. The winnings let Max reach tier four and become Godbound, while Tanila, Batrire, Fowl, Cordelia, Rakonath, and the bound demon companion reach tier three. The seven postpone a portal pad until all can defend their world with tier-five domains, and Max continues racing toward tier six before the expected clash among black-skill holders. Max and Tanila's daughter and her red dragon companion have reconciled after losing three teammates on Tower floor 55 and are climbing again with a rebuilt party. Death remains bound by a twenty-five-thousand-year nonaggression oath, but the Nine, the gold dragon god, the demon king's debt, and the identity of the power directing Max's enemies remain unresolved.
