Vengeful recap

Previously: at Lockland University, two brilliant roommates, Victor Vale and Eli Cardale, set out to test Eli's thesis that a near-death experience under the right conditions of adrenaline and will produces an ExtraOrdinary, an EO. Eli went first and came back able to heal from any injury. Victor's own attempt killed Eli's girlfriend, Angie Knight, and left Victor able to turn a person's pain up past bearing or off entirely. Eli decided that EOs were not people but wrong things wearing them, and that destroying them was his duty; he started with Victor, who shot him and learned he could not be killed. Victor went to prison for ten years for Angie's death while Eli went free under a new name and spent the decade hunting EOs, helped by Serena Clarke, whose voice nobody could refuse and who kept the police pointed elsewhere. Victor broke out with his cellmate Mitch Turner, took in Serena's younger sister Sydney, a girl who can bring back the dead, and hunted Eli through the city of Merit. In a cemetery Eli killed Victor, and Sydney brought him back. Serena was shot dead and Sydney refused to raise her; with her compulsions broken, Detective Stell arrested Eli, who could not be executed and so was taken away to be contained and studied instead. Victor survived, but the resurrection was imperfect, and what came back was not quite what died.
