War of Honor

By David Weber

Continuing the series, Manticore's corrupt coalition government pursues deep naval budget cuts over Honor Harrington's objections, while the Republic of Haven secretly rebuilds a powerful new fleet in case negotiations collapse. When Honor's political influence, closely allied with Earl White Haven, threatens the government's plans, hostile peers launch a public smear campaign alleging an affair between them - a charge complicated by real, unacted-upon feelings on both sides. The scandal deepens when White Haven is adopted by a treecat bonded to Honor's own companion, forcing the two households together in public. A coordinated defense by the queen and White Haven's wife blunts the attack, but allies of the government begin looking for a hazardous assignment that could remove Honor from the political scene entirely.
