Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.

Bill (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A musher traveling through the frozen North with Henry, a dwindling dog team, and a coffin lashed to their sled. He is increasingly alarmed by the wolves following their camp and by the strange female that lures their dogs away.

Henry (Supporting)

Appears from the start

Bill's steadier traveling companion on a dangerous winter journey. He manages the sled and camp while a hungry wolf pack shadows the men and takes their dogs one by one.

One Eye (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 4

An older, battle-scarred wolf who becomes the she-wolf's mate after defeating his rivals. Cautious and experienced, he hunts to provide food when their litter is born.

Kiche (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 9

White Fang's mother, a wolf-dog who once lived among people. When she encounters Gray Beaver's camp with her cub, she recognizes the man and answers to the name he gave her.

White Fang (Protagonist)

First appears in chapter 9

A gray wolf-dog cub, the sole survivor of his litter, named for his conspicuously white teeth. His early life in the wild has made him alert, curious, and quick to learn, and his first human camp confronts him with powers and rules he does not yet understand.

Gray Beaver (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 9

An Indigenous man who recognizes Kiche as the offspring of a wolf and his late brother's dog. He claims Kiche and her cub, names the cub White Fang, and becomes the human master whose authority shapes the animal's early life in camp.

Lip-lip (Antagonist)

First appears in chapter 10

A larger puppy in Gray Beaver's camp who singles White Fang out for repeated attacks. Protected by the other puppies and by camp rules, he teaches the younger outsider to expect hostility from other dogs.

Mit-sah (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 12

Gray Beaver's son, a boy who drives a small sled team. He learns how to use White Fang's speed and the other dogs' dislike of him to keep the team running hard.

Beauty Smith (Antagonist)

First appears in chapter 15

A physically unimpressive but malicious white man at Fort Yukon who becomes fascinated by White Fang's ferocity. Mocked by others and resentful of strength, he wants to possess the animal and exploit its capacity for violence.

Tim Keenan (Minor)

First appears in chapter 18

A professional gambler who owns Cherokee, a compact bulldog brought forward as an unusual opponent for White Fang in the fighting enclosure.

Cherokee (Minor)

First appears in chapter 18

Tim Keenan's bulldog, slow-looking and placid before a fight but bred to hold whatever he catches. His unfamiliar build and method make him unlike the dogs White Fang has previously faced.

Weedon Scott (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 19

A mining engineer from California who intervenes when White Fang is being abused after a dogfight. Patient but firm, he believes the animal can respond to fair treatment despite its learned hostility.

Matt (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 19

Weedon Scott's practical musher and companion in the North. He is wary of White Fang's danger but helps Scott care for the wounded animal and tests whether it can safely remain with them.

Collie (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 22

A sheepdog at the Scott family estate in California. Her instincts make her distrust White Fang as a wolf, and she firmly enforces the boundaries of the domestic animals' world.

Judge Scott (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 23

Weedon Scott's father, a retired judge and head of the California household. He initially questions whether a wolfish animal from the North can be trusted around his family.

Jim Hall (Antagonist)

First appears in chapter 24

An escaped convict who was sentenced by Judge Scott and holds the judge responsible for his imprisonment. Reports of his escape put the Scott household on alert.
