Worlds Apart characters
Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.
Dash (Protagonist)
Also known as Newton Sawyer
Appears from the start
The Messenger, commander of the Cygnus Realm, and pilot of the archetype. Working in a meld with Sentinel, he fights Golden Harbingers near an icy world and turns aside from a simple pursuit when an artificial signal suggests a larger mystery.
Sentinel (Supporting)
Also known as AI Sentinel
Appears from the start
The archetype AI joined to Dash through the meld. Sentinel improves the mech's weapon control, evaluates changing Harbinger tactics, and detects artificial emissions from the icy planet. A dry attempt at humor also hints at a personality extending beyond tactical analysis.
Leira (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 2
Dash's deputy commander and the pilot of the Swift. She joins the expedition to recover the fallen Harbinger and investigate Burrow.
Benzel (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 2
A former privateer and experienced tactical commander assigned to the Burrow recovery force.
Wei Ping (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 2
A former privateer with tactical command experience who joins the Burrow expedition.
Conover (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 2
An engineer and Mako pilot whom Dash assigns to develop selective unspace-disruption devices for capturing enemy craft intact.
Ragsdale (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 2
The forge's security authority. As Dash prepares to shelter more displaced people, Ragsdale is empowered to establish safeguards against spying and sabotage, balancing the need to protect refugees with the danger that hostile agents may enter among them.
Swift AI (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 2
The unnamed AI partnered with Leira aboard the Swift, supporting her in the mech's operations.
Haralyn (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 4
Cygnus's civilian-affairs and external-relations specialist. Her mining background makes her the proposed representative for approaching Burrow's isolated inhabitants after Dash learns their worsening planetary winter may leave them only years from disaster.
Amy (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 5
A member of the Cygnus command staff responsible for operational readiness. Dash assigns her a defined place in the newly formalized command structure as the force changes from improvised resistance to a sustained offensive organization.
Custodian (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 5
The forge AI responsible for fabrication, analysis, and parts of station security. Custodian works with Conover and Viktor to produce Surge mines, combining unspace disruption with a controlled electronic impulse intended to disable hostile systems without destroying the prize.
Viktor (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 5
A forge engineer who works with Conover and Custodian on the first batch of Surge mines. His technical duties support Cygnus's effort to replace purely destructive attacks with controlled disabling strikes and recoverable enemy technology.
Freya (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 7
The specialist overseeing agriculture and living conditions aboard the forge. When the captured Greenbelt arrives, Freya approves familiar food crops but isolates unknown plants until they can be tested, treating the vessel as both an opportunity and a biological risk.
Former excavation operator (Minor)
First appears in chapter 8
A Burrow survivor who aids the assault on a Verity-held excavation. Drawing on practical experience with heavy machinery, the operator drives an excavator through hostile fire and gives the Gentle Friends moving cover for their advance into the tunnel.
Clan Shirna commander (Antagonist)
First appears in chapter 8
A captured Clan Shirna officer who identifies herself as the adopted heir of the faction's deceased leader. She is taken aboard a disabled cruiser that may hold another recovered power core, but refuses to explain the technology or its intended purpose.
Aquarian leader (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 9
The leader of the Aquarian Collective and a new military ally of Dash. The alliance places Aquarian forces under his nominal direction for agreed objectives, while preserving their right to reject missions that conflict with their own judgment or interests.
Refugee doctor (Minor)
First appears in chapter 17
A doctor among the rescued refugees who restores Conover's heartbeat after his attempt to connect with a captured Harbinger causes cardiac arrest.
Teen refugee informant (Minor)
First appears in chapter 18
A teenage survivor of Verity captivity who reports an isolated holding system outside the known line of enemy activity. She believes her imprisoned brother remains there and asks Cygnus to act, offering intelligence that Dash recognizes could also lead into a trap.
Former captive militia veteran (Minor)
First appears in chapter 19
A liberated prisoner with militia experience who guides Dash's boarding force through a Verity detention station. The veteran's knowledge of the facility and demonstrated skill under fire make the guide a valuable participant in reaching the captives.
