The third volume of the 1% Lifesteal series picks up after Freddy Stern is publicly linked to a string of deaths, forcing him into hiding behind a permanently altered face. He crosses the dangerous Northern Spine on foot to reach the semi-lawless Northern Belt, using a series of aliases to earn money and avoid capture. Settling in a city under a new identity, he funds an ally's medical restoration, invests his growing wealth, and begins mapping the region's rival factions. When he takes an interest in a young mortal named Lucas and his mother, Freddy is drawn into confronting the loan sharks and local criminals threatening them, escalating tensions with a corporate faction while he continues developing his blood and water affinities in secret.
