12 Miles Below

By Mark Arrows

12 Miles Below introduces Keith Winterscar, a scavenger in a surface clan that survives by salvaging pre-collapse technology while avoiding hostile machines below ground. After he and his sister Kidra accidentally trigger a buried defense turret, their father's intervention as an armored relic knight saves the scavenging party but draws Keith into a larger expedition to an ancient derelict complex. There, competing with a rival house in a scavenging contest, Keith restores power to a hidden system that alerts a hostile machine intelligence and triggers a catastrophic underground collapse. Separated from the expedition and trapped far below the surface with his badly injured father, Keith must navigate an uninhabited zone maintained by mysterious repair machines called Mites while searching for a way back to the surface.
