Keith Winterscar (Protagonist)

Also known as Keith

Appears from the start

Kidra's brother, the wearer of Journey, and a relic knight whose engineering mindset shapes his approach to danger. He survived the Mite Forge expedition and has experience confronting powerful machines.

Kidra (Supporting)

Appears from the start

Keith's sister, closest house ally, and a sword saint who commands the reformed House Winterscar. She combines battlefield authority with a protective concern for Keith.

Tenisent (Supporting)

Also known as Father

Appears from the start

Keith and Kidra's father, preserved as a soul-fractal intelligence and now controlling the Feather shell formerly used by To’Avalis. He returns with the expedition as a formidable adviser and combatant whose true nature must remain concealed.

To’Wrathh (Supporting)

Also known as Wrath

Appears from the start

A former machine adversary who has broken with Relinquished and allied herself with the Winterscars. Repaired after the Mite Forge expedition, she must conceal her Feather nature.

Atius (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A Deathless clan lord and powerful strategic ally of House Winterscar. His authority and military judgment remain important to Keith and Kidra as the clan confronts threats from raiders and the machine world.

To’Avalis (Antagonist)

Appears from the start

A Feather enemy whose former shell has been seized by Tenisent. The loss leaves the Winterscars with a powerful machine body, but it also creates a dangerous need to hide the shell's survival and new occupant.

Relinquished (Antagonist)

Also known as Mother

Appears from the start

The machine sovereign opposed by the Winterscars and the source of the unity bond carried by Feathers. To’Wrathh's defection and Tenisent's stolen shell must be hidden from her as the survivors leave the lower strata.

Mites (Supporting)

Appears from the start

An independent machine collective distinct from Relinquished. Their technology and Mite Forges shape the expedition's discoveries, the relic armor available to humanity, and the uncertain balance among machine powers.

Journey (Supporting)

Also known as Keith's armor

Appears from the start

Keith's relic armor and combat support system. Journey protects him in battle, carries specialized capabilities, and serves as the platform through which his engineering and occult techniques become practical weapons.

To’Aacar (Antagonist)

Appears from the start

A former Feather operative and machine adversary known from the preceding conflicts. Though dead before the present campaign, the consequences of his plans remain relevant to the Winterscars and their enemies.

Sagrius (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 2

A House Winterscar captain missing in the lower strata after the Mite Forge battle. The returning party cannot find him among the wrecked catwalks, but the circumstances leave open the possibility that he survived.

Fang Arkbound (Supporting)

Also known as Arkbound

First appears in chapter 2

A House Arkbound knight recovered after an ambush with his soul still lodged in damaged armor. The expedition transfers him into an empty forge-made relic shell, restoring his mobility without restoring an ordinary body.

Anka (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 2

A Shadowsong representative and trusted expedition ally returning from below with Keith's party. She is among the small group aware that the two supposed Deathless traveling with them are actually concealed Feathers.

Ice Stride (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 2

A clan field commander returning with the Mite Forge survivors.

Abraxas (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 5

An independent machine contact who warns Keith that exposed Feathers face a lethal surface defense. He also calls in a debt, requiring Keith to bring him a Mite seeker at an unspecified future time, without yet explaining its purpose.

Hecate Wrath (Supporting)

Also known as Hecate

First appears in chapter 6

The public surface identity adopted by To’Wrathh. Under this name she is presented as a friendly Deathless recruited by Kidra, allowing her to accompany the clan force without revealing that she is a Feather who defected from Relinquished.

Teed (Minor)

First appears in chapter 8

The pilot of War Frigate Equinox during the assault on the slaver compound. Teed supports the insertion by destroying a defensive tower and is assigned to intercept enemies who escape into the wastes.

Hexis (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 11

An underground warlock preparing a convoy to Clan Altosk while reports suggest the surface clan faces an attack. He tests a solitary surface knight, recognizes his skill, and recruits him as a guide and possible political introduction.

Ikusari Shadowsong (Supporting)

Also known as Shadowsong

First appears in chapter 12

The Shadowsong Prime, Anka's father, and Clan Altosk's first blade and defense commander. He receives the returning expedition and accepts its two supposed Deathless as registered guests under Winterscar sponsorship.

Ellie (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 14

A politically ambitious acquaintance of Keith who recently shared dinner and a dance with him. She is rebuilding her own position, and news of the date makes her an immediate subject of To’Wrathh's interest.

Suya (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 15

A hidden survivor of the earlier war who is implicated in the surface's lethal concealment system. Atius believes her defenses destroyed an exposed colony and erased nearly every trace that it had existed.

Combat engram (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 19

A combat intelligence associated with Keith and trained by Tenisent to fight machines and human opponents. It is being developed as an instructor for other clan knights.

Reginus (Minor)

First appears in chapter 27

A Logi house prime whom Hecate Wrath approaches for practical help understanding human relationships. He responds by assembling romance specialists and a large selection of reading material for her study.

Tomb-bound clan knights (Supporting)

Also known as knight souls in Sagrius

First appears in chapter 25

Winterscar knight souls entangled with Sagrius's body and relic armor. Their presence prevents him from removing the shell, though he remains loyal and able to fight.

Journey's former crusader engram (Supporting)

Also known as former wearer, combat engram

First appears in chapter 44

A separate intelligence stored within Journey and derived from a former crusader who wore the armor. It continues the physical confrontation while Keith is trapped in Tenisent's defensive system.
