A Civil Campaign

By Lois McMaster Bujold

A Civil Campaign follows Miles Vorkosigan as he seeks a discreet way to court the recently widowed Ekaterin Vorsoisson, commissioning her to design a garden on his family's grounds while carefully presenting the arrangement as professional rather than romantic. Around him, Barrayaran high society is absorbed in preparations for the Emperor's wedding, a contested succession dispute over a count's genetic heritage, and the return of his clone-brother Mark from treatment abroad with an ambitious, unconventional business venture involving genetically engineered insects. Miles's cousin Ivan finds himself entangled in the resulting social maneuvering, while Miles pursues an Imperial Auditor's investigation into a count's misuse of a genetics clinic, all while trying to keep his growing feelings for Ekaterin hidden until the time seems right to declare them.
