By Kim Harrison
Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.
Rachel Morgan (Protagonist)
Appears from the start
The witch at the center of Vampiric Charms. Rachel has survived several demon bargains and now knows that her childhood and Trent Kalamack's were linked by their fathers' genetic work. When Nick and Jax disappear in northern Michigan, she treats their rescue as a personal obligation despite Nick's abandonment of their relationship.
Ivy Tamwood (Supporting)
Appears from the start
Rachel's living-vampire partner and church housemate. Ivy remains affected by Piscary's old control and by Rachel's relationship with Kisten, but her loyalty makes it unlikely that she will remain behind once Rachel's rescue mission becomes more dangerous than planned.
Jenks (Supporting)
Appears from the start
The pixy partner in Vampiric Charms and Jax's father. Jenks has been estranged from Rachel over her secrecy, but news that his son is missing gives them an urgent reason to repair enough of their partnership to work together.
Matalina (Supporting)
Appears from the start
Jenks's wife and the practical center of their large pixy family. Matalina understands why Jenks must search for Jax while also seeing the dangers in magic that changes a pixy's size and natural limits.
Nick Sparagmos (Supporting)
Appears from the start
Rachel's former boyfriend, a human researcher who left Cincinnati after being bound to her as a familiar. Nick is now missing after a theft involving Jax and a powerful Were artifact, and the limited information reaching Rachel casts him as a captive in need of rescue.
Jax (Supporting)
Appears from the start
Jenks and Matalina's son, a young pixy determined to prove himself beyond his father's protection. Jax has been working with Nick and disappears with him after their attempt to obtain a valuable object draws the attention of hostile Weres.
Ceridwen Merriam Dulciate (Supporting)
Also known as Ceri
Appears from the start
The ancient elf living at the church after Rachel freed her from Algaliarept. Ceri combines knowledge of demon curses with caution learned through captivity, and she helps adapt dangerous magic for the unusual demands of Jenks's rescue mission.
David Hue (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 5
A lone Were and insurance investigator who has worked with Rachel before. David needs pack standing without submitting to a conventional alpha and asks Rachel to take a formal place beside him, a bond with both social and magical consequences.
Kisten Felps (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 8
A living vampire involved romantically with Rachel and tied by long history to Ivy. Kisten remains in Cincinnati during the initial search and provides a connection to the unstable vampire world the partners leave behind.
Trent Kalamack (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 15
The secretive elven businessman whose past is entangled with Rachel's childhood. Trent has an interest in the object Nick and Jax pursued and sends his own people to protect his claim, making his agents another danger around the rescue.
Quen Hanson (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 17
Trent's elven security chief. Quen follows the trail north on his employer's behalf and approaches Rachel as a capable rival whose objectives overlap with his only temporarily.
