Appears from the start

Twenty-five, and about to be married at Green Gables after three years of waiting. She leaves Avonlea for Four Winds Harbour, where Gilbert has taken over a country practice, and sets up house in a small white cottage on the shore that she names her house of dreams. Still the girl who renames the places she loves, she is now a young wife making friends in a community of fishermen, farmers, and sailors, and she has never yet had to bear a real sorrow of her own.

Newly qualified as a doctor and about to marry Anne, he takes over an established country practice at Four Winds and Glen St. Mary. Steady, hard-working, and conscientious to the point of stubbornness where his profession is concerned, he holds that a doctor's duty is to cure whoever can be cured.

The keeper of the Four Winds light, an old sailor with a weather-beaten face and remarkably young blue eyes, who has spent a lifetime at sea and can tell the story of every wreck on the coast. He keeps a lighthouse, a cat called the First Mate, and a store of tales he has never written down, and he takes to Anne and Gilbert from their first evening at the point.

A capable, plain-spoken spinster of the harbour who calls on Anne early and stays to give her the history of everyone in it. She keeps up a lifelong quarrel with men and Methodists, does more practical good than anyone else in the community, and will sew for a neighbour's baby while explaining exactly what is wrong with its father.

A strikingly beautiful young woman who lives in the grey house up the harbour and drives her geese along the shore road. She is about Anne's age, proud and cold to strangers, and refuses friendliness so firmly that Anne almost gives her up. Something in her life has shut her away from her neighbours, and the harbour speaks of her with pity.

Leslie's husband, a big, bearded man who went to sea years ago and was brought home from Cuba after a fever and a head injury with his memory and his wits gone. He is docile, childish, and entirely dependent, and Leslie has cared for him ever since.

A tall, bearded man of the harbour, prosperous and well liked, who swore years ago that he would neither shave nor cut his hair until his political party won an election, and has kept the vow long past the point where anyone remembers him otherwise.

A journalist and writer from Toronto who comes to Four Winds for the summer and boards with the Moores. His grandparents were the schoolmaster and his bride for whom Anne's little house was built, so the place has a hold on him. Easy company, observant, and looking for a book he can write.

A middle-aged Glen St. Mary woman engaged to help in the Blythe household, devoted, thoroughly competent, and possessed of firm opinions on cooking, children, and her neighbours' failings. She attaches herself to the family at once and regards its concerns as her own.

The mistress of Green Gables, old now and quiet, who gives Anne away from the house she came to as a child and afterwards keeps the farm with Mrs. Lynde and the twins.
