Ashes of Victory

By David Weber

Ashes of Victory continues the story of Honor Harrington as she returns to Allied territory after a daring escape from the enemy prison planet Hades, badly injured but alive despite having been presumed dead and publicly executed in propaganda broadcasts. Her survival forces both the Star Kingdom of Manticore and the People's Republic of Haven to reckon with the fallout: Manticore restores her rank and standing while working out the awkward inheritance and honors that followed her presumed death, and Haven's leadership scrambles to control the story before the truth reaches its rivals. As Honor recovers and takes on a training command to help rebuild the Alliance's strength, the wider war grinds on, and on Grayson a conservative steadholder begins courting mysterious outside backers opposed to the planet's ongoing reforms.
