Blackflame characters

By Will Wight

Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.

Lindon (Protagonist)

Also known as Wei Shi Lindon

Appears from the start

Now under Eithan Arelius's patronage, Lindon is training hard to make up for his late and lowly start, still driven by the ambition that carried him out of Sacred Valley. Pragmatic and willing to take risks others would refuse, he is prepared to walk a dangerous and forbidden road if it will make him strong quickly enough. His hunger to grow leads him toward power that most sacred artists would never touch, and he pursues it with the same mix of study, cunning, and determination that has defined him from the start.

Yerin (Protagonist)

Appears from the start

Lindon's sword-artist companion, steadily growing in strength as she trains under Eithan's guidance alongside him. Fierce, direct, and highly skilled, she continues to contend with the dangerous blood-madra presence bound to her by her late master's art, a source of both power and peril. She remains Lindon's closest ally and a far more natural fighter than he is, pushing forward with characteristic bluntness.

Eithan Arelius (Supporting)

Appears from the start

The flamboyant, eccentric, and immensely powerful head of the Arelius family, and the patron guiding Lindon's and Yerin's growth. Playful and endlessly meddlesome, he hides the true extent of his strength and his intentions behind a carefree manner. He steers Lindon toward rare and dangerous opportunities that a more cautious mentor never would, confident in the potential he alone seems to see.

Jai Long (Antagonist)

Appears from the start

Lindon's rival from the Desolate Wilds, the masked and curse-scarred spear artist, whose conflict with Lindon follows them into the heart of the empire. Proud and dangerous, and still driven by ambition and concern for his sister, he remains one of the most direct threats Lindon faces. Their long-running feud builds toward a decisive confrontation.

Jai Chen (Minor)

Appears from the start

Jai Long's frail younger sister, whose wellbeing continues to shape her brother's choices. Her presence remains the human heart behind his relentless drive for power and status.

Cassias Arelius (Supporting)

Appears from the start

An honorable, disciplined retainer of the Arelius family who serves Eithan and increasingly works alongside Lindon and Yerin. Skilled and principled, he provides a steady, conventional counterpoint to Eithan's unpredictability and comes to respect Lindon as the outsider proves himself.

Orthos (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 7

A massive, ancient sacred beast in the form of a great black tortoise, a wielder of the destructive Blackflame arts. Bitter and half-consumed by the madness that the Blackflame Path tends to bring, he becomes bound to Lindon as the two share that dangerous road and steady one another. Powerful and short-tempered, Orthos is both a formidable ally and a warning of what the path they walk can do to those who follow it.
