Breakaway
Continuing the Expeditionary Force series, Earth faces a worsening climate crisis as a Maxolhx-created cloud blocks sunlight and drives mass migration, while Joe Bishop's small fleet works to build up enough strength to force the Maxolhx into removing it. After a Maxolhx ambush destroys ships meant for humanity and deepens distrust among the galaxy's major powers, Bishop's ship Valkyrie strikes an underused Maxolhx shipyard in retaliation, then discovers and begins restoring an abandoned alien service station that could dramatically speed Earth's military buildup. As the fleet expands, Bishop authorizes covert operations to extract vulnerable family members from Earth, while Flying Dutchman's crew quietly recruits a frustrated former military leader on a Ruhar-controlled world for a still-undisclosed mission.
