A traveler from Earth restored to a younger body after an earlier life in the Nine Worlds. Though he returned without his former power, his experience guides the defensive soul home he is rebuilding and the companions preparing to enter the Chasm.
Nauda (Supporting)
Appears from the start
A Tatian soulcrafter who specializes in a staff, wards, and structures made from natural materials. Disciplined and practical, she travels with Theo and Fiyu while preparing both for the Chasm and for a carefully planned rise to ruler tier.
Fiyu (Supporting)
Appears from the start
An Ichil light soulcrafter whose sensitive senses make darkness comfortable and harsh light dangerous. Separated from her relative, she relies on soul-silver bracers while developing stronger barriers and a corporeal section of her soul home.
Navim (Supporting)

An Arbai stone shaper, scholar, and established ally of Theo's group who is recovering from an earlier grave injury.

A House Blacksilver authority who negotiates with Theo, Nauda, and Fiyu over their three Chasm invitations. After they refuse to sell them back, this authority arranges preparation aid and travel to Arbai, then safely removes allied materials from Theo's soul home.

The weakened head of the School of Emerald Indulgence, recovering after destroying a powerful demonic incursion.
Homes (Minor)

One of three Asplendat Movement rulers who confront Theo's party at the Chasm shore. He survives the group's river trap after his two companions are lost, leaving the travelers to decide whether to save a defeated opponent.
Matan (Antagonist)

A scarred authority of the House of Burning Leaves. At the dark island, he regards the Norro Yorthin travelers as expendable and attacks when they try to evade his demand that they open an authority-resistant door.
Tithes (Antagonist)
First appears in chapter 19
A powerful authority who drives Matan away from the island building while concealing the nature of his own soulcrafting behind physical reinforcement and raw kante. He then orders Theo, Nauda, and Fiyu to serve him.
Dan (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 23
One of three House Blacksilver authorities stationed amid the final ruins. He helps shelter Theo, Nauda, and Fiyu and offers counsel as the surrounding stronghold-scale conflict closes routes through the cavern.
Jan (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 23
A House Blacksilver authority encountered with Dan and Karcheval at the final ruins. Jan provides Theo, Nauda, and Fiyu with refuge and counsel while stronger factions contest the remaining paths through the cavern.
Karcheval (Supporting)

A House Blacksilver authority at the final ruins who uses a far-seeing technique to assess the surrounding conflict. Alongside Dan and Jan, he advises the travelers as they consider the dangerous route toward the waterfalls.
Vistul

A powerful figure present at the doors of the final vault as rival forces converge and the struggle in the ruins escalates. His purpose and connection to the threatened vault remain uncertain when he is identified.

Theo's longtime enemy (Antagonist)

Theo's apparently unaged enemy from a century earlier. He escapes the destruction at the final vault, nullifies powerful kante, and kills an opposing stronghold before leaving the ruins.
Fiyu's relative (Supporting)

The relative from whom Fiyu is separated. Fiyu delays her planned corporeal construction until they can undertake the work together.
Scepter-seeking authority
First appears in chapter 25
One of two unnamed authorities who fight over the Scepter of Separation near the waterfalls. Their struggle breaches Nauda's defenses and severely damages her soul home.
Leader of the House of the Lost (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 26
The tentacled nonhuman leader of the House of the Lost. This soulcrafter directly fights Theo's longtime enemy and carries their battle away from the escaping travelers.
