Conservation

By Seth Ring

The eighth entry in the Battle Mage Farmer series opens as John, a Tower Master carrying the Eternal Flame, refuses the Resplendent Empire's demand to submit to its dragon ruler and defeats its chosen warrior in single combat, confirming him as the dragon slayer the empire has been hunting. Candle Scholar Tower commits to entering the Millennium Meeting, a competition among towers and mage families for standing and resources, and John spends the lead-up studying faith's link to the Eternal Flame and backing research into void-capable ships. He assembles a team split between family-affiliated mages and Tower-trained talents to represent a tower with a modest record from the last meeting. At the Millennium Shard, an unconventional gift turns early mockery into attention, and the empire's hostility resurfaces as the team is sent into Nehru, a sealed, dying world it must investigate.
