Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.

Paige Winterbourne (Protagonist)

Appears from the start

A young witch who has inherited leadership of the American Coven and guardianship of Savannah Levine after her mother's death. Paige is determined to modernize the Coven and give Savannah a stable home, although many older witches doubt both her methods and her readiness.

Savannah Levine (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A powerful thirteen-year-old witch living with Paige after the destruction of the compound where they were held. Savannah is intelligent, grieving, and quick to use magic when ordinary rules seem unjust. Paige is her guardian, teacher, and closest dependable family.

Victoria Alden (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 2

An elder of the American Coven and one of the strongest voices for caution. Victoria believes secrecy and obedience to established practice are essential to witches' survival, making her wary of Paige's public problems and willingness to work with other supernatural races.

Lucas Cortez (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 4

A sorcerer lawyer who offers to help Paige answer the custody claim against her. Lucas is courteous, methodical, and willing to work without the resources his family name could command. Paige's distrust of sorcerers makes her reluctant to accept him despite his knowledge of Cabal tactics.

Kristof Nast (Antagonist)

First appears in chapter 5

A senior figure in the Nast Cabal and Savannah's biological father. Kristof uses the human courts and his organization's influence to seek custody, presenting himself as a parent while representing a family that places great value on Savannah's exceptional magical potential.

Leah O'Donnell (Antagonist)

Appears from the start

The telekinetic half-demon who escaped after collaborating with the human compound and whose actions led to Ruth Winterbourne's death. Leah remains at large when Paige assumes responsibility for Savannah, giving Paige reason to treat any unexplained supernatural attack with suspicion.

Robert Vasic (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 8

A half-demon and member of the interracial supernatural council. Robert offers Paige experienced advice and understands the wider consequences if a custody dispute draws human attention to real magic.

Adam Vasic (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 8

Robert's son, a half-demon with a fire-related power and a longstanding friendship with Paige. Adam is direct and loyal, providing support from outside the Coven when its elders become reluctant to stand beside her.

Sean Nast (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 28

One of Kristof Nast's sons and therefore Savannah's half-brother. Sean's connection to the Cabal gives him divided loyalties, but his interest in Savannah is more personal and sympathetic than the institution's effort to control her.

Benicio Cortez (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 36

Lucas's father and the powerful head of the Cortez Cabal. Benicio is accustomed to solving problems through wealth, influence, and family authority. Lucas keeps his distance from that world, although the name still shapes how others judge him.
