In short (whole book)
After an altered summoning pulls Felix Nevarre from Earth, a system makes him Nym and strands him in the Foglands. He survives by developing skills, gains the Tenku companion Pit, and joins Magda Aren's guild party against a Risi occupation. Their rescue of the Risi prisoners leads Felix, Pit, and Magda into a labyrinth beneath Shelem. At its center, the Unending Maw reveals that it engineered Felix's hunger and intended to use him as a vessel. Felix and Pit resist it, and Felix activates the essence anchor, clearing the Foglands and saving the continent. Magda is found without a heartbeat, Illia abducts Vessilia Dayne, and surviving Risi answer a new underground summons. Felix and Pit survive but are banished into a void with the weakened Maw.
Story so far - through chapter 9 (this book)
An altered summoning crosses the barrier between worlds and reaches Earth. At a yacht party in Fort Lauderdale, a man tries to help after finding April unconscious and learning that his sister Gabrielle is attempting to rescue her. Attackers beat him and throw him into the sea, where crimson lightning pulls him away. He wakes beside a caustic lake beneath five moons and barely escapes an aquatic blood beast. During a painful system initialization, he takes the name Felix Nevarre, is forcibly made Nym, receives the Magician omen, and chooses Keen Mind. His unusual rewards include Gourmand and Lessons of the Past, which preserve impressions from defeated creatures. Alone in a forest where even common predators greatly exceed his level, Felix learns to identify medicinal plants, develops movement and combat skills, and trains deliberately. After surviving a disastrous first hunt, he kills an acid-producing grub and reaches level four. He then fashions weapons from its pincers, establishes a repeatable hunting method, kills fourteen more grubs, and reaches level seven. With his temporary shelter's resources depleted, he tests whether consuming a grub's blood can teach him more.
Story so far - through chapter 17 (this book)
Felix's experiment grants him Acid Stream, confirming that Gourmand and Lessons of the Past can derive abilities from consumed foes. Forced away from his first shelter, he survives a waterfall plunge and awakens from a strange vision of an unidentified woman. He discovers the Foglands, recovers equipment from a dead Hanari explorer, and enters a hidden complex behind the falls. After destroying a vast wisp swarm, he gains force and influence magic and learns that the structure is an ancient Nym temple. A quest offers the temple as a home if he eliminates five nearby threats. Felix soon intervenes when a sentient Seven-Legged Oret hunts a small golden-eyed creature. Despite severe injuries and the Oret's blood magic, he turns the creature into his lodged sword and kills it. The victory counts as the first temple threat and yields one of four Blood Remnants tied to another quest. The rescued creature follows Felix home and is identified as a Tenku. Felix names him Pit. When a beetle mortally wounds Pit, Felix accepts a life-binding Companion Pact that restores the young Tenku and links their advancement.

Felix and Pit hunt together while Felix seeks a path toward civilization. A dead ape's memory leads them into a sealed cave, where elementals strengthen Pit but an unseen force separates the pair. Felix survives mental pressure and attacks underground, learns Stone Shaping from the ape's remembered magic, and finds Pit caged in a volcanic complex. After freeing him, Felix discovers failed efforts to copy ancient sigils and learns Invocation and Sigils of the Primordial Dawn by correcting a glyph. Their escape carries them through a corrupted garden controlled by an armored master later known as the Archon. The Archon captures Felix, probes his mind, and recognizes his connection to the Nym temple and bronze sword. Felix and Pit flee the Archon's iron servants, but the giant tunneling worm Helga swallows Felix above a lava cavern. Felix escapes her mouth, reshapes the broken bridge to cast her into the lava, and kills the remaining pursuer. He and Pit then tunnel out of the mountain. A system message declares a challenge complete and orders Felix back for a reward, but he refuses. From the surface they can finally see a distant settlement, while the living Archon remains behind.
Story so far - through chapter 34 (this book)
Elsewhere in the Foglands, Magda Aren and Harn Kastos lead the trainees Evie Aren, Atar V'as, and Vessilia Dayne west on a dangerous guild expedition. Felix and Pit find ruined city lights and discover Risi warriors spreading supernatural frost. The Risi and the Archon register as threats to Felix's temple quest. When a Risi patrol brings in an unconscious human captive, Felix frees her and fights the guard while Pit pulls her to safety. The captive is Vessilia, separated from Magda's party. Felix kills her guard, then follows her to a larger battle in time to disrupt an ice-axe attack on Atar. He joins Magda, Harn, Evie, and Atar against the remaining giants, combining his force, acid, and stone magic with their weapons. Magda and Harn kill the Risi commander after Felix diverts its final attack. A new quest charges Felix with discovering why the Risi have come south and eliminating the incursion. The group takes shelter together, but Magda questions Felix's improbable strength and history. He conceals his origin while revealing that, unlike the others, he cannot perceive the obstructive Foglands fog.
Story so far - through chapter 45 (this book)
Felix learns that the Foglands fog is an illusion visible through Manasight. He, Pit, and the trainees locate a Risi camp around a bronze-domed building, where human prisoners are being prepared for a sacrificial purpose. Magda and Harn admit their expedition also aims to rescue a missing friend. During the group's retreat, Illia poisons Felix and steers Risi toward the others. Pit helps Felix survive and drive her away, and Felix later uses her blood to glimpse fragments of her memories. Those memories identify Illia as Eliza DuFont's covert operative and reveal a much larger failed expedition held near the dome. Felix and Pit recover the party's ward stones from a compromised shelter, and a portrait in Magda's locket confirms that her sought companion is among the prisoners. After a rooftop escape, the group shelters in an ancient tower while an unknown inhabitant observes them. Felix learns Cloud Step by reproducing Illia's mana technique and finds murals linking the tower to his waterfall temple. Magda finally explains that the vanished expedition sought an artifact able to remove the Foglands fog. Its extractor was her former teammate Calesca Boscal. Felix returns Magda's locket and agrees to help rescue Calesca and the other survivors.
Story so far - through chapter 55 (this book)
While the Risi camp remains alert, Harn trains Felix in disciplined weapons work and explains that apprentice-tier skills can produce essences for tempering body, mind, or spirit. Felix delays several advancements because a poor or mistimed essence choice can be fatal. Magda drills Felix and the trainees, then tests them against Ofranach beneath the tower. A swarm nearly overwhelms the group, but Evie organizes the defense around Atar's fire while Vessilia holds the line. Evie, Vessilia, and Atar complete their omen reveals, ending the battle before collapsing from the cost. Their omens are the Devil, High Priestess, and Chariot. Harn's reconnaissance establishes that the prisoners pass through a warded Capitol building whose defenses briefly fall during guard changes. The party plans to enter during that opening, poison the incoming guards' food, and evacuate the captives in groups. Before the operation, an elder Geist watcher confronts Felix. The Geist identifies Shelem as an ancient city under its watch, calls Felix Nym only in an incomplete sense, and tests his motives. Felix withstands the encounter, but the Geist warns him against trusting his hunger and sees a corrupt red mark on his spirit.
Story so far - through chapter 62 (this book)
The rescue party infiltrates the Risi encampment and overwhelms poisoned guards inside the Capitol. They find about thirty surviving prisoners, including Calesca Boscal, who initially attacks Magda because she expects a Geist illusion. Once convinced, Vessilia organizes the survivors into evacuation groups. Felix removes the elemental shard sustaining the Capitol wards and defeats the Risi chieftain's claim to it, but the chieftain and his witches attack. Outside, Illia drugs an evacuation group and abducts Vessilia. Inside, Magda and Calesca direct the defense as casualties mount. The chieftain's magic hurls Felix onto the roof, but he returns despite a severe concussion. The surviving prisoners choose to keep fighting. The chieftain reseals the Capitol and traps the defenders with fresh Risi forces. Felix cuts back through the rear entrance and confronts the chieftain, who draws blood from fallen giants and transforms into a more corrupted shape. Pit intervenes when Felix is captured and is critically injured. Magda shields them from an ice-spear barrage, but the impact throws Magda, Felix, and Pit through the rear doors and down the central sinkhole.
Story so far - through chapter 70 (this book)
Felix, Pit, and Magda survive the fall into a fog-filled labyrinth, though all three are badly hurt. Felix uses essence drafts from Vessilia's case and completes the Moving Mountain Body, but his hunger briefly turns toward living mana. Magda concludes that the artifact powering the Foglands lies deeper underground. Harn and Evie lead the freed prisoners toward safety, while Calesca enters the labyrinth alone to find Magda and Felix. Poison and a skill shattered by the chieftain steadily weaken Magda as she leads Felix and Pit through traps. She and Felix reconcile, and she discloses her former partnership and romance with Calesca. During an anomalous spirit tempering, Felix receives another sign that his inner corruption remains unresolved. He then tells Magda the truth: he came from Earth without magic, the system made him Nym, and he is Unbound. After crossing a flooded chamber, they reach a sealed fortress guarded by two powerful blood-tainted beasts. Felix compresses Acid Stream into a devastating attack that kills both guardians, destroys his recovered satchel and Blood Remnants, and evolves the spell into Rack and Ruin. The central fortress opens, but Felix is depleted and Magda lies motionless.
Story so far - through chapter 77 (this book)
Felix stabilizes Magda, but the pursuing Risi maim her and nearly kill him. Magda forces Felix and Pit through the closing central door, gives Felix a pendant for Calesca, and remains behind. At the essence anchor, a captive woman recognizes Felix as Nemean and Unbound. When he resists her influence and refuses to become her champion, she reveals herself as the Unending Maw, a primordial that consumed the original woman and manipulated Felix's race, Gourmand, and Lessons of the Past to prepare him as a vessel. The Risi chieftain dies when the Maw's attempted transformation consumes him. Pit reaches Felix and strengthens their pact into Etheric Concordance. Felix becomes a Dawnwalker and God-Eater, loses several earlier skills, creates Ravenous Tithe, and consumes enough of the Maw to reach the anchor. He activates it because he cannot contain the primordial. The Foglands vanish, sunlight and natural growth return, and normal skills work again, saving the continent. Calesca finds Magda cold and without a heartbeat. Illia carries the unconscious Vessilia toward Harwatch, while surviving Risi receive a new underground summons. Felix and Pit awaken banished in a featureless void. The weakened Maw is there with them.
How does it end? (ending)
Felix and Pit reach Shelem's essence anchor after Magda stays outside the central door to delay the Risi. The captive woman reveals herself as the Unending Maw, a primordial that manipulated Felix's race and hunger-based abilities to prepare him as a vessel. The Risi chieftain dies during a failed transformation. With Pit's bond strengthening into Etheric Concordance, Felix becomes a Dawnwalker and God-Eater, consumes part of the Maw, and uses the anchor against it. The act removes the Foglands fog and skill suppression and restores the region, but banishes Felix and Pit into a featureless void with the surviving weakened Maw. Calesca Boscal finds Magda cold and without a heartbeat. Harn Kastos, Evie Aren, and Atar V'as are outside with the rescued prisoners and do not know Felix's or Magda's fate. Illia carries the unconscious Vessilia toward Harwatch while intending to profit from the outcome. An unidentified speaker recruits surviving Risi to serve a new father belowground, while the Archon and Felix's unfinished temple objective also remain unresolved.
