By Rachel Caine

Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.

Claire Danvers (Protagonist)

Appears from the start

A gifted teenage scientist who chose to remain in Morganville after Bishop's defeat. Claire is rebuilding her studies, her relationship with Shane, and her work with Myrnin.

Shane Collins (Supporting)

Appears from the start

Claire's boyfriend and housemate. Shane is adjusting to life after imprisonment and Bishop's occupation while trying to rebuild an ordinary relationship with Claire.

Eve Rosser (Supporting)

Appears from the start

Claire's Goth housemate and Michael's girlfriend. Eve welcomes creative work and new friendships after the war while helping Michael pursue his music.

Michael Glass (Supporting)

Appears from the start

The vampire owner of Glass House, Eve's boyfriend, and a talented musician. With Bishop defeated, Michael can pursue his music again, although public attention creates risks in a town built on secrecy.

Myrnin (Supporting)

Appears from the start

An ancient vampire scientist and Claire's mentor. Myrnin relies on Ada to operate the machinery beneath Morganville and treats the preserved personality inside the system as a person with whom he shares a long history.

Ada (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A human consciousness preserved within the machinery controlling Morganville's portal network. Ada is intelligent, possessive of Myrnin, and increasingly hostile toward Claire, making faults in the system feel personal rather than mechanical.

Kim (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 2

A confident young filmmaker who becomes close to Eve and already has a history with Shane. Kim is sociable and creative, but her arrival unsettles both couples at Glass House.

Amelie (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 2

Morganville's Founder, restored to power after defeating Bishop. Amelie now governs in an uneasy partnership with Oliver and remains determined to preserve the town's supernatural secrecy.

Oliver (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 3

The vampire proprietor of Common Grounds and Amelie's governing partner. Oliver helps enforce the secrecy and stability of the post-Bishop settlement without becoming a gentler or more trusting authority.

Hannah Moses (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 4

A human organizer with military experience who helped resist Bishop and now works to restore order. Hannah provides a practical bridge between Morganville's human residents and its re-established vampire government.

Monica Morrell (Minor)

First appears in chapter 3

Claire's former tormentor, still protected by the Morrell family's influence despite the political changes in Morganville. Monica remains eager to exploit Claire's social uncertainties even when larger dangers require cooperation.

Frank Collins (Minor)

First appears in chapter 8

Shane's father, transformed into a vampire during Bishop's campaign. Frank remains separated from ordinary family life, and his existence complicates Shane's effort to put both his father's violence and the occupation behind him.
