Erin (Protagonist)

An Earth-born innkeeper rebuilding The Wandering Inn after the attack on Liscor. Erin makes her remote home a refuge for people whom the city excludes, and her loyalty to friends frequently places her between hostile groups.

Ryoka (Protagonist)

Also known as Ryoka Griffin

Appears from the start

A barefoot runner from Earth who deliberately refuses classes and levels. Ryoka helps rescue Ceria, then seeks dangerous, well-paid work in hopes of financing the magic needed to restore her friend's hand.

Toren (Supporting)

Also known as Erin's skeleton

Appears from the start

An undead skeleton created by Pisces and bound to guard Erin. Toren follows her instructions and accompanies the improvised party that enters Liscor's ruins to rescue survivors.

Ceria (Supporting)

Also known as Ceria Springwalker

Appears from the start

A half-Elf mage and the surviving member of the Horns of Hammerad. She is recovered from the ruins starved, grieving, and with one hand reduced to bone, leaving her uncertain whether she can or should return to adventuring.

Pisces (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A capable mage and necromancer who created Toren. Pisces helps Erin's party fight through the undead ruins, applies his unusual magic pragmatically, and remains tied to Ceria and the losses suffered by the Horns.

Ksmvr (Supporting)

Also known as former Prognugator

Appears from the start

An Antinium official assigned by Klbkch to protect Erin's improvised rescue party. Though reluctant and conscious of Hive authority, Ksmvr joins the dangerous descent and fights alongside companions from outside the Antinium.

Klbkch (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A senior Free Antinium official, Watch guard, and ally of Erin. Returned after his apparent death, Klbkch balances his friendship with Erin against his responsibilities to the Hive.

Rags (Supporting)

Also known as Flooded Waters chieftain

Appears from the start

A goblin chieftain who learns chess from Erin and joins the ruins rescue. Rags uses scavenged weapons, magic, and careful tactics to protect her tribe, even as Liscor's Watch makes remaining near Erin increasingly dangerous.

Relc (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A powerful Drake guard, Klbkch's partner, and regular ally of Erin. His experience in the goblin wars has left him openly hostile to goblins, creating a serious conflict with Erin's protection of Rags.

Krshia (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A Silverfang gnoll merchant and one of Erin's closest contacts in Liscor. Krshia supplies practical help to the inn while also acting on her responsibilities to her tribe.

Bird (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A surviving Antinium worker who joins the reconstruction of The Wandering Inn and helps direct part of the work.

Selys (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A Drake guild worker and dependable friend to Erin. Selys helps with supplies, pricing, and local customs, making her an important bridge between the unconventional inn and everyday life in Liscor.

Olesm (Supporting)

Liscor's tactician and an enthusiastic chess player. Olesm survives the ruins by hiding with Ceria, then studies Erin's games with unusual dedication while remaining responsible for the city's defense.

Octavia (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A Stitch-person alchemist who recognizes the value of Ryoka's rare haste potion. Octavia becomes a supplier of practical mixtures and information, combining commercial ambition with genuine technical skill.

Magnolia Reinhart (Supporting)

A powerful northern noble who gathers intelligence on Erin, Ryoka, Liscor, and the Antinium. She recognizes that knowledge carried from Earth can alter the balance of power and quietly seeks control over that risk.

Ressa (Supporting)

Appears from the start

Magnolia Reinhart's head maid and household enforcer. Ressa maintains discipline around the estate and supports her employer's intelligence work with an intimidating, highly controlled presence.

Hawk (Minor)

Appears from the start

A rabbit Beastkin courier raised around Liscor and interested in cooking. Exceptionally fast and experienced with dangerous routes, Hawk offers Erin favorable delivery terms and gives Ryoka useful travel warnings.

Black Mage (Supporting)

Appears from the start

An Earth-born Engineer and Mage at Wistram who links surviving phones into a magical text chat. The experiment briefly connects scattered arrivals, but an outsider compromises the channel and forces a cautious retreat.

Fals (Minor)

Appears from the start

A fellow runner who advises Ryoka about guild work, the demands of courier jobs, magical-item prices, and Magnolia Reinhart’s whereabouts. He warns that runners with levels will eventually surpass Ryoka despite her current speed.

Zevara (Supporting)

Appears from the start

The Watch authority overseeing Liscor’s response to the ruins. Zevara refuses to endanger essential guards in the rescue, then secures the site and arranges treatment when Ceria and Olesm emerge alive.

Flos (Supporting)

Also known as King of Destruction

Appears from the start

A feared monarch whose awakening is reported across the world. His earlier conquests transformed Chandrar, so news of his return threatens to unsettle distant powers even before his new plans become clear.

Ghazi (Antagonist)

Appears from the start

A formidable half-gazer pursuing Erin and Ryoka on behalf of Flos. Ghazi overwhelms Liscor's defenders and nearly abducts both women before Erin destroys her central eye and forces her to retreat.

Az'kerash (Antagonist)

Also known as the Necromancer

Appears from the start

The hidden necromancer who is the intended recipient of Ryoka's magically guided delivery. He commands deadly undead from a concealed stronghold, accepts the letter and ring brought to him, and allows Ryoka to depart.

The dragon (Supporting)

Also known as unidentified powerful mage

Appears from the start

A dragon concealed behind a human appearance who deals in knowledge, favors, and rare objects. He binds Ryoka to deliver a message to Az'kerash, then uses powerful magic to obscure his identity from her memory.

Niers Astoragon (Supporting)

Also known as the Titan

First appears in chapter 19

An exceptionally high-level strategist and senior leader of a Great Company. He is the distant player linked to Erin's magical chessboard and recognizes that his unknown opponent in Liscor is one of the few people able to challenge him.

Pawn (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 21

An Antinium worker who chose a name after voluntarily learning chess with Erin. His individuality demonstrates that personal choice, rather than an order to imitate others, is central to the change Klbkch hopes to reproduce.

Yvlon (Supporting)

A former silver-rank captain recovering after the disaster in Liscor's ruins. Yvlon is physically awake but burdened by the deaths of her companions, self-blame, and compensation owed to their families.

The former thief (Supporting)

A human convicted of burning Krshia's market stall and exiled into lethal winter conditions. Erin rescues her and offers shelter only on the condition that she work at the inn, beginning a resentful and coercive employment arrangement.

Garen (Supporting)

Also known as Garen Redfang

The hobgoblin chief of the Redfang tribe, a mounted warrior able to speak the common language. After testing Rags in battle and losing, Garen submits his tribe to her leadership and warns that a Goblin Lord is rising.

Tom (Protagonist)

Also known as summoned Clown, Hero

First appears in chapter 31

An Earth-born member of a group summoned as heroes by the Blighted King. A depressed noncombatant with a high Clown level but a fragile Hero class, Tom faces the collapse of the group and a deadly demon raid.

Richard (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 31

A knight and the strongest member of the Earth-born group summoned by the Blighted King. Richard leads its evacuation during a demon attack and intends to prevent the kingdom from repeating the ritual that brought them there.

Emily (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 31

A hydromancer among the Earth-born people summoned by the Blighted King. Emily is one of the group's capable combatants and helps organize the evacuation when demons raid their frontier refuge.

The missing young gnoll child (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 35

A nearly nonverbal young gnoll who disappears from the child's tribe as a storm approaches. Ryoka joins the search and accepts an undefined price from the frost fairies for a chance to find the child.
