The fifteenth entry in the Expeditionary Force series finds Joe Bishop's crew fleeing through Rindhalu territory after a damaged, hostile Elder AI sends a distress signal that may draw the attention of the ancient, godlike Elders themselves. With the ship's own AI, Skippy, unusually shaken and restricted from explaining the full danger, Valkyrie finds itself trapped deep inside a wormhole network that has begun treating the ship as a security threat. As conventional escape routes close off one by one, Bishop and his crew turn to an increasingly desperate plan: hijacking another ship to slip past the blockade, all while political maneuvering among the Rindhalu, the Maxolhx, and a Jeraptha faction complicates an already precarious galactic balance of power.
