Ground State

By Craig Alanson

Ground State continues Joe Bishop's Task Force Black as it tries to track two escaped alien starships and uncover what the Maxolhx empire knows about them, all while nursing a badly damaged ship. A dangerous boarding raid on an enemy cruiser secures a captured navigation core, while separate analysis of the enemy's unusual technology and covert political maneuvering begin to reveal that the invaders are trying to rebuild the infrastructure needed for a larger incursion. As factions on Earth argue over whether to negotiate or fight, Bishop works to identify and disrupt the supply chain the enemy needs before it can finish building a replacement gateway into the galaxy.
