The commander of the Cygnus Realm and pilot of the archetype. Dash leads a field team into a jungle cave to recover a recently crashed Golden probe, opening a new investigation into enemy activity.

Leira (Supporting)

Appears from the start

Dash's frontline partner and the pilot of Swift. She joins the expedition that retrieves a damaged Golden probe from a jungle cave.

Wei Ping (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A specialist in recovering Golden technology. During the cave operation, he removes vital modules from the probe while its damaged drive begins to activate.

Ragsdale (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A Cygnus operator with security responsibilities. He accompanies the team recovering the Golden probe and helps contain the danger when its drive activates.

Custodian (Supporting)

The forge AI responsible for fabrication and strategic production. Custodian analyzes the recovered probe and allocates its dark metal to new Q-cores, expanded manufacturing, and a fighter program.

Beacon shipyard overseer (Supporting)

The overseer of Beacon's shipyard. He initially mistakes Cygnus's dark-metal mechs for Golden forces, then halts the fighting and agrees to meet Dash.

The pilot of Talon. Amy remains near Beacon with Conover while Dash and Leira pursue two Harbingers, guarding the shipyard against a possible diversion.

Dash's archetype AI. Sentinel detects two Harbingers approaching Beacon, allowing Dash and Leira to intercept them while other defenders remain near the shipyard.

Kristen (Supporting)

The AI partnered with Conover aboard Pulsar. Kristen joins Sentinel and Tybalt in analyzing the Golden transfer network after Cygnus repairs a captured station.

Tybalt (Supporting)

A Cygnus AI analyst who works with Sentinel and Kristen to interpret the operation and reach of a Golden transfer station.

Mustelid commander (Supporting)

The commander of a captured frigate crewed by small mustelid-like beings. After offering dialogue, the commander is released from prisoner status and becomes a provisional contact between Cygnus and an unknown people.

The senior diplomatic voice of the mustelid-like delegation at Mark Deep. She subjects Cygnus to deliberate tests and accepts Dash's refusal to let disabled enemies be executed.

Feathered reptiloid commander (Antagonist)

The commander of a feathered reptiloid border fleet base. After Cygnus breaks the moon's defenses, the commander orders an evacuation while confronting Dash's demand for peace.

Freya (Supporting)

A Cygnus provisioning planner who investigates how to feed the mustelid-like guests. Freya proposes combining aquaculture with unused hydroponic capacity.

Cradle arm AI (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 14

An active AI found in the memory core of a hybrid mechanical arm recovered from the Cradle. It is kept isolated because its origin and allegiance remain unknown.

Almost gravel-guild leader (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 16

The former fleet captain who leads Almost's gravel-guild government. She identifies the Far-Flung as Golden collaborators and directs Dash toward a dangerous dark-metal installation.

Almost human adviser (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 16

The human adviser to Almost's gravel-guild leader. The adviser provides coordinates for the nearby dark-metal installation and argues that the Unseen remain necessary to protect life.

Friendly-burrow sibling delegates (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 19

Two siblings representing a friendly alien burrow. Acting for their parents, the burrow's leaders, they commit nine warships to the Cygnus alliance and accept an offer of technical upgrades.

Mako pilot (Minor)

First appears in chapter 20

A Cygnus fighter pilot serving with the Mako force assembled to defend Almost from an approaching Golden-backed attack.
