Felix Nevarre returns from the void to find Harwatch under Inquisition pressure and the guild concealing the consequences of its Foglands expedition. Reunited with Pit and Magda Aren's surviving allies, he investigates ritual murders, trains his unstable abilities, and learns that guild experiments have corrupted the city's domain. Zara Cyrene recruits Felix, Vessilia Dayne, Evie Aren, and Harn Kastos to stop the breach. Inside, they join Atar V'as and other guild fighters against revenants, Maw-born subcores, and an Archon envoy using captives to create the Ravager King. Felix banishes the Maw, then consumes its remnant when the new primordial rises. The domain collapses and the Ravager King escapes over Harwatch, but Felix and Pit drain it to death. Felix survives as a dangerously overloaded Primordial Nym. Zara kills the stranded Master Inquisitor, the guild loses its charter, and the Archon orders a search for Felix before a planned attack on the city wall.

Previously: Felix Nevarre, a human drawn from another world, survived the Foglands alongside his bonded Tenku companion, Pit. His unusual growth and abilities marked him as Unbound and tied him to the lost Nym, secrets known to Magda Aren. During the expedition's struggle, the hostile primordial called the Maw became trapped within Felix, and he fought to contain it inside his own mind. The Foglands expedition ended in disaster. Magda forced Felix through the Geist labyrinth's vault door to save him and entrusted him with a broken locket meant for Cal. Felix and Pit escaped through the void, but their companions had reason to believe them dead. The guild recovered Magda's body and seized items left behind, including Felix's journal and bronze hooked sword. Vessilia Dayne, Evie Aren, Harn Kastos, Cal, and Atar V'as returned to a Harwatch shaped by the expedition's losses, while Felix's fate and the Maw's continued presence remained unknown.

A ritual in Amaranth meant to seek people beyond fate is sabotaged by a red-robed chanter, releasing an unknown force and drawing a warning of worldwide ruin. Elsewhere, Felix Nevarre and Pit emerge from a blood gate into the cleared Foglands three months after the Fog vanished. Felix has reached level 26 and contains the Maw in his Bastion of Will, but his race, titles, and Tenku companion would attract dangerous scrutiny. At Harwatch, Inquisition acolytes reject Felix's entry papers. He incapacitates one with lightning, slips into the city, and receives help from Kerwin, a shopkeeper hostile to the Inquisition. Her veiling amulet gives him a false status, and he takes lodging in the poor Dust Quarter while searching for his former allies. In the guild citadel, Vessilia Dayne is confined by her father's representative. She spies on the elders and hears evidence that they are hiding Foglands survivors. Darius Reed catches her, but she now knows the guild's public account is incomplete.

Felix begins rebuilding his life in Harwatch. He protects a street illusionist, obtains work and instruction from Zara Cyrene at the Elder Crown, and teaches himself enough written language to handle her books. When Atar V'as searches the shop for a banned volume, Felix takes it first and follows him. Atar is investigating fifteen ritualized murders and believes the killer is using the sealed guild domain. Felix agrees to help in exchange for entry. Felix reunites with Evie Aren, Harn Kastos, Cal, and the displaced Foglands survivors. He returns Magda Aren's broken locket to Cal and tells the three leaders that he is an Unbound Nym. They keep his secret. The guild has isolated Vessilia and confiscated Felix's sword and journal. Before Felix can pursue the domain lead, prismatic wretches breach the city. Fighting anonymously in the Dust Quarter, he kills several creatures and saves residents, but poison and wretch blood intensify the Maw-driven hunger. His hands turn into black talons as more monsters close in.

Felix loses control during the wretch attack, developing wings, fangs, talons, and bone spurs before consuming a monster with Ravenous Tithe. Pit reaches him through their bond and ends the frenzy. Witnesses know only that a blue-eyed winged figure saved the Dust Quarter, and the Inquisition takes charge of finding this supposed fiend. Felix returns to normal after waking, but his Nym bloodline has advanced and the Maw warns that the transformation will continue. While rumors turn the unknown defender into a local legend, Felix arranges supplies and secures a direhound disguise for Pit from Kerwin. She reveals a connection to harmonic chanter magic and summons him to a future meeting. Felix chooses to remain with Cal's displaced group and train for the domain. Harn exposes serious gaps in his technique, and Rory, a veteran dwarf trainer, joins them. Cal explains that Felix has begun a Broken Path and already possesses unusually strong body, mind, and spirit formations. The group resolves to strengthen his foundations before entering the domain.

Felix kills a gang beside another mutilated murder victim and loses control long enough to consume a half-ogre. An Inquisition initiate reconstructs the victim's final moments, while Felix recognizes similarities between the murder markings and the Archon's script. Atar cannot yet secure domain access. Rory instead begins an intensive regimen, teaching Felix how broken skills may be sundered and recombined into stronger ones. Vessilia continues investigating the closed domain and the guild elders. Eliza DuFont hires Ilya to watch her, while Ilya reveals prior knowledge of Felix and Pit. During training, Felix discovers that essence stored through Ravenous Tithe can accelerate skill growth. He risks a major evolution, combining six movement and conditioning skills into the Epic Unfettered Volition. The Maw steals part of the ritual's power and escapes its inner cell, trapping Felix in false memories and attempting to take his body. Felix uses his new skill in harmony with Bastion of Will to restore the prison. Rory keeps his unconscious body alive, but Felix knows the new seal will not hold forever.

Kerwin's secret meeting leads Felix and Evie to an underground Chorister movement opposed to both guild and Inquisition rule. Zara Cyrene appears there in religious robes and reveals that she and Kerwin are two magical identities used by the same woman. She practices chanter magic and offers Felix an apprenticeship. A follower of Vellus proclaims Felix the blue-eyed fiend before Vessilia arrives with the suspiciously capable courier Matthias. The Inquisition raids the gathering. Matthias guides Felix, Evie, and Vessilia into the sewers, where acolytes and a stronger initiate intercept them. Felix survives a core-suppressing arrow, acquires a corrupted version of its Legendary skill, and uses it to break the initiate's defenses. Matthias secretly kills an acolyte and later admits that his youthful shape is a disguise. He is Zara's adult operative and helped Vessilia investigate the elders. Aboveground, the Inquisition conducts coordinated mass arrests and searches for the blue-eyed lightning user. The fugitives follow Matthias toward Zara's refuge rather than attack the army and its mana ship.

At Zara's warded estate, Felix learns that chanter sorcery reshapes the Grand Harmony outside the system and that ancient Unbound were powerful practitioners. Zara believes guild experiments on corrupted Foglands survivors are destabilizing Harwatch's domain. If its shell breaks, altered creatures will flood the city, and she suspects the Inquisition is encouraging that failure to seize Harwatch and the Foglands. Zara asks Felix's allies to enter the domain because her Master-tier power could rupture it. Felix, Vessilia, Evie, Harn, and Cal bind themselves to the secret mission. Zara supplies temporary wards, training, and resources. Felix reveals his full Unbound status to Vessilia, who accepts him based on his actions. Before preparations finish, Eliza DuFont gives the Inquisition Zara's location. The group escapes into the sewers as Zara fights the Master Inquisitor in a duel that devastates nearby blocks. Felix, Vessilia, Evie, and Harn advance toward the domain without their expected reinforcements, while Zara survives the first assault and remains at large.

Felix's party frees captives wearing core-suppressing collars and discovers evidence that the Inquisition intends to break the failing domain shell. With guild and Inquisition forces approaching, Felix sends the civilians toward Cal and enters the domain with Pit, Harn, Evie, and Vessilia. Atar V'as separately enters with a guild squad whose members have been coerced into silence by an elder. The domain rejects Felix's group, but he destroys its expulsion constructs at the cost of further shell damage. Its former desert has become a corrupted forest filled with primordial spawn, revenants made from people, and the remains of captives. Felix's party reaches a besieged fortress and joins Atar's survivors. A Larval Ravager emerges as a Maw-born subcore that feeds on corpses and commands the horde. Harn organizes the combined fighters behind Yvette's mobile steel wall. They force a path toward the creature, but the intelligent revenants regroup, leaving the alliance depleted and still short of its target.

Corrupted oath-links turn guild fighters against Felix's group. Harn kills the transformed captain and Yvette, ending the steel barrier, while the party retreats through revenants. The Larval Ravager isolates Felix and resists his ordinary attacks. Felix activates What Dwells Beneath, enters the creature through its mouth, removes its bloodstone core, and destroys it. Absorbing the core floods Felix with corrupted essence. The Maw tries to seize his body and spread along his oath-links, so Felix spends his saved attributes on willpower and uses the stolen power to combine seven broken resistances into the Legendary Song of Absolution. Pit joins the internal struggle through their bond. Felix finds the Maw's own hidden threads and tears them out, allowing Pit to drive the primordial remnant away and earning Felix the Fatebreaker title. The victory destabilizes Felix's body formation, which he rebuilds with the remaining essence. A memory from the dead ravager then exposes the larger plan: four subcores are feeding the domain's center while a metal figure prepares it to become a new Maw called the Ravager King.

Felix completes his new body formation and reaches level 33, while Pit grows rapidly from the Larval Ravager victory. Because a domain breach would release the corruption into Harwatch, the party agrees that the central core must be destroyed even though the domain will be lost. Lillian and Dabney leave, but Atar and Alistair remain with Felix, Pit, Harn, Evie, and Vessilia. Outside, the Master Inquisitor exposes the guild's experiments and burns the charter that grants it authority over Harwatch. Felix tells Harn the full history of the Maw and accepts a more disciplined place in the formation. The group follows the ravager's tunnel toward the core, defeating spawn and Knights of Hunger through coordinated traps and ranged attacks. Felix deciphers repeated corrupted arrays that siphon ambient mana toward the center, explaining both the dying terrain and the enemy's growth. Atar and Alistair deteriorate as their ward protection runs low. In a nearly drained section close to the core, two powerful Bishops of Hunger appear under orders to bring the party forward.

The party kills one Bishop of Hunger, but Evie's hip is shattered and the second Bishop captures the group. They awaken bound above the Ravager King's bore, where more than thirty corrupted prisoners fuel a living array. Envoy 54770, an armored servant of the Archon, explains that infiltrators marked victims and plan to use Harwatch's population to create an army. Pit helps Felix alter Stone Shaping and free the party as three Ravager Queens approach. Felix resists the envoy's inverted sigils, then uses Ravenous Tithe amid the platform's stolen essence. He severs the Maw's connections to the sacrifices, while Evie destroys enough of the adaptive array to disable it. Felix strips the envoy's armor and empowering sigils before killing it. The essence within reveals that the envoy was once a frost giant forcibly remade by the Archon. The three Queens then transform into flying, hydra-like dragons and pour white fire into the bore. With the island collapsing and escape cut off, the exhausted survivors choose to fight before the Ravager King can fully emerge.

The party boards a flying Queen and cuts into its body. Felix studies the seven arrays around its core, combines primordial and profane sigil knowledge into a Legendary skill, and takes command of the creature's internal patterns. He drains its core with Pit's help and redirects excess essence toward the void. The Queen dies in the crash, but the other two dissolve into the bore and awaken the Ravager King. Using his allies' oaths, Felix locates the Maw remnant inside the new primordial. He rejects its influence and consumes its mind. The Ravager King forces the remaining essence into him, changing Felix into a Primordial Nym and transforming his flesh-shaping power. When the domain shell fails, both fall through the void and emerge over Harwatch. The Ravager King destroys the Master Inquisitor's mana ship, but Felix and Pit drain its remaining power until it dies. Felix survives, overloaded by what he absorbed. Harwatch is left damaged, monster-ridden, and without settled authority. Zara directs civilians to safety, confirms Felix's victory, and kills the trapped Master Inquisitor. The Archon learns its operation has failed but not who defeated it. It orders a search for the unknown man and prepares to breach the city wall before the blood moon.

Felix, Pit, Vessilia, Evie, Harn, Atar, and Alistair survive the destruction of Harwatch's corrupted domain. Evie escapes with a shattered hip, while Atar and Alistair are badly depleted and affected by the domain. Felix consumes the Maw's remaining mind and essence, becomes a Primordial Nym, and gains new flesh-changing abilities. After the Ravager King emerges into Harwatch and destroys the Inquisition mana ship, Felix and Pit drain the dying primordial until it withers away. Felix lands alive but overloaded with its power. Harwatch remains damaged and filled with weakening monsters. The Inquisition has revoked the guild's charter, leaving the city's government unsettled. Zara Cyrene survives her duel, protects civilians, and kills the trapped Master Inquisitor after the final battle. The Archon loses its envoy, domain core, and Ravager King, but remains active. Unaware of Felix's identity, it orders its forces to find the unknown man responsible and to breach Harwatch's wall before the blood moon.
