Inara's Grace

By J.D. Franx

In the sixth Darkness Within Saga novel, Kael breaks with the ruthless goddess of death after she massacres civilians during an assault meant to weaken an ancient, hostile mage-race, leaving him to seek allies for the coming war on his own terms. As he travels to secure new support, Kael also uncovers unexpected personal stakes, including a companion improbably returned from the afterlife and a vulnerable child connected to his own past, both of whom need protection even as larger threats gather. Elsewhere, a newly freed enemy force and a covert weapons program push the wider conflict toward open war, while Kael works to rally independent communities and old allies to a cause the established powers have handled with more brutality than he can accept.
