Industrial Magic characters

By Kelley Armstrong

Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.

Paige Winterbourne (Protagonist)

First appears in chapter 2

A young witch raising Savannah outside the Coven that rejected them. Paige has built a private-investigation and consulting partnership with Lucas, and her willingness to challenge supernatural institutions makes her receptive to a case that Lucas would rather refuse.

Lucas Cortez (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 2

A sorcerer lawyer and Benicio Cortez's estranged son. Lucas wants to help people harmed by the Cabals without becoming part of his father's organization, a position tested when the Cortezes ask him to investigate violence within their own community.

Savannah Levine (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 2

The powerful teenage witch in Paige's care. Savannah is more settled after the custody battle but remains independent, impatient with being protected, and alert to any sign that adults are making decisions about her without her.

Benicio Cortez (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 4

The head of the Cortez Cabal and Lucas's father. Benicio is accustomed to using wealth, family pressure, and carefully chosen incentives, but the deaths of young people connected to the Cabals give him a reason to seek the help of the son who refuses him.

Troy Morgan (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 9

A security operative for the Cortez Cabal assigned to assist and protect Lucas and Paige in Miami. Troy understands Cabal procedure and family politics, making him both a useful guide and a reminder that the investigators are working inside Benicio's organization.

Jaime Vegas (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 16

A professional necromancer whose theatrical public persona conceals genuine power. Jaime is brought into the investigation when the dead may hold information unavailable to ordinary witnesses.

Cassandra DuCharme (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 18

An old vampire and member of the interracial supernatural council. Cassandra is polished, guarded, and highly conscious of vampire rules; her experience becomes relevant when the investigation reaches beyond Cabal rivalries.

Sean Nast (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 29

Savannah's older half-brother and a member of the Nast family. Sean has previously shown concern for Savannah as a person rather than a Cabal asset, which makes him a possible intermediary when Paige needs information from another sorcerer family.

Elena Michaels (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 35

The only known female werewolf and an experienced investigator of predatory behavior. Elena is consulted when Paige and Lucas need a perspective the Cabals cannot supply.

Edward

First appears in chapter 44

A vampire linked to the older history behind the case. Edward becomes important when Paige's inquiry shifts toward supernatural longevity and crimes that may have been misunderstood as ordinary violence.

Natasha

First appears in chapter 44

A woman closely connected to Edward and to the history Paige is reconstructing. Natasha's account offers another route into the questions of vampirism, survival, and motive surrounding the investigation.

Jeremy Danvers (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 61

Alpha of the North American werewolf Pack and a calm authority among the wider supernatural community. Jeremy's arrival gives Paige experienced support when the danger can no longer be contained by Cabal security.
