Salvatore "Sal" Argento (Protagonist)
Also known as Myth, Mythcrafter
Appears from the start
The book's viewpoint character, home at his family's Silver Sanctuary auction house for the between-semester break after being named Quest Academy's top-ranked Savior. His silver eyes appraise any object in exact detail, and his fused Mythcrafter ability builds extraordinary gear from powers he has copied with Skill Master. Still set on founding a support-crafting guild rather than fighting, he means to win his parents' backing in person.
Petro Argento (Supporting)
Appears from the start
Sal's father and co-owner of the Argento Auction House, a genial, theatrical salesman whose appraisal-type ability reads objects in fine detail. He welcomes Sal home for the break, coaches him in auction showmanship, and has secretly built him a private workshop beneath the auction house, while gently steering his son's ambitions.
Sophia Argento (Supporting)
Appears from the start
Sal's mother and the auction house's co-owner, a meticulous restorer who repairs damaged gear by hand rather than with quick fixes. Sharp, protective, and quietly formidable, she manages much of the family business and worries about the pressures Sal's growing talents are drawing toward him.
Shade
First appears in chapter 3
A rival appraiser tied to the Delvers Guild and a defaulting client of the Argento Auction House, whose abandoned gear Sal reworks and sells against him. An invisibility-type ability lets him lurk and eavesdrop, and he is caught spying on the auction from a walkway above the floor. He swings between threatening Sal and pitching him a place in his guild, with a history of legal harassment against the family business.
Blathnaid McClean (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 15
A crafting classmate and steady friend of Sal's, a gifted tailor with a construct ability. When the wider crafting community wrongly pegs her as Quest Academy's secret master crafter, the rumor conveniently shields Sal's true identity. Warm and modest about her own talent, she bonds easily with other crafters and is quick to spot the flaws in a design.
Divinity Khan (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 16
A foresight-gifted friend and Sal's closest confidant, whose eyes turn white when she reads possible futures. Her half-joking prophecy that Sal is fated to marry a crafter he cannot place drives much of his break. Candid and fiercely loyal, she tries to steer him away from his worst possible futures while deliberately refusing to spoil the good ones.
Maurice (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 20
The Argento family's longtime friend and exotic-materials supplier, and Fabi's father, first seen on-page at his Silver Sanctuary materials shop. Warm and shrewd, he sources rare crafting stock, strikes an ongoing supply deal with Sal, and is cautiously hopeful about his daughter's chances with an experimental skill implant, unaware Sal designed the ability behind it.
Michel
First appears in chapter 18
A courteous, ambitious Silver Sanctuary restaurateur and property owner whose elegant, half-finished venue is one of the sites the family tours for Sal's future guild base. He offers a discounted sale in exchange for a stake in whatever Sal is building, wanting to be part of something larger than his underused restaurant.
Fabrizia "Fabi" (Supporting)
Also known as Fabby
First appears in chapter 16
A top-ranked third-year support student at Quest Academy whose recorded essence-programming tutorials quietly guide Sal's secret build. Sophia decodes her identity: she is the daughter of the family's materials supplier, a childhood playmate Sal cannot remember, born without an ability despite years of specialists, and much of his workshop equipment was once hers. She is also the crafter a friend's prophecy named as Sal's future match.
Upgrade (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 30
Sal's crafting mentor and Quest Academy's workshop lecturer, whose ability turns her gear into a suit of powered mechanical armor. Warm but exacting, she attends the Hunter Bureau gala, helps diagnose Sal's temperamental fabrication machine, and repeatedly shields him and his friends from unwanted attention over their abilities.
Barry Francis (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 29
A low-ranked illusionist and one of Sal's closest friends, sharp-tongued and endlessly inventive. At the gala he stages an elaborate illusion to flush out a masked, multi-identity hunter, then keeps needling Sal while quietly pushing him to stand up for the overlooked. Quietly top of every academic subject beneath the clowning.
The Reclusive Automation Crafter (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 32
A famously eccentric, reclusive crafting and automation authority, scruffy and openly contemptuous of gala formality, whose rail-based operation was the inspiration behind Sal's fabrication machine. He publicly outs Sal as the Academy's secret master crafter, framing the exposure as protection, and becomes a tense but genuine ally.
Robert
Also known as Phantom
First appears in chapter 36
The silver-haired president of the Hunter Bureau, who bears the legendary hero name Phantom and hosts the year's gala. Commanding and politically ruthless, he announces the reclamation of a lost city, pushes controversial policies over the objections of Quest Academy, and takes a quiet, watchful interest in Sal's rare abilities.
Prestige (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 43
A top-ranked Hunter Bureau hero and the mother of Sal's former teammate Brophy, who intervenes when a forced public skill-implant demonstration goes catastrophically wrong. Immensely powerful and exacting, and tied to Sal's mother by an old history, she takes command of the chaos, condensing raw atmospheric essence into the failing machine to keep it alive.
Luke (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 75
A veteran militia commander and an old comrade of Sal's parents from their earlier service, who runs an independent, mounted paramilitary order (the Dragoons), unaffiliated with the Hunter Bureau. Gruff and warm, he sells Sal cheap demon cores, warns that the hero system exploits crafters, and grants the family access to his compound's dungeons.
