Oren enters Akzar to obtain viridium and trade for GreenPiece, building a Temple of Nihilator, recruiting workers, winning arena support, and creating a viridium body for Aidanriel. His dealings with Bartun end in theft and death, but Ted Mercury becomes bound to preserve trade. Oren escapes Akzar with new allies and an independently conscious shadow clone left at the cathedral. GreenPiece reaches village status, then launches a ruinous strike against the Manipulators. Raystia kills Big Pill's raven during the battle, completing Vic's concealed plan to assemble Shiva. Shiva defeats Guy, takes Neo, expels most players, and resets those who remain. Oren kills Vatras but is forced back into his human body. He survives in treatment with a large settlement, while Tika and their newborn remain in Neo and Kaedric assumes leadership of GreenPiece.

Previously: Oren is a human player trapped in the virtual world of Neo, where he lives as a goblin and leads GreenPiece. Vic, his shape-changing virtual intelligence companion, supports him as both adviser and ally. Oren is bound to the shadow patron Nihilator and has developed GreenPiece around Goblin's Gorge with the help of figures including Kaedric, Tika, Yulli, Bob, Zuban, and Rhinorn. Tika is Oren's partner, while Kaedric administers the clan in his absence. GreenPiece's enemies include Vatras and the Manipulators, whose continuing hostility threatens the settlement. Oren begins this volume still responsible for strengthening and rebuilding his people while navigating the tension between his human origin and the goblin life he now treats as his own.

Oren, Bob, and Yulli enter Akzar to buy viridium and establish trade for GreenPiece. The city's layered restrictions force Oren to pose as Bob's slave, and his use of Dark Mana against guards damages the clan's reputation. Duladeen, an expert minotaur smith, sells him ten viridium spheres and offers conditional sponsorship. An upper-ring guard explains that entry instead requires two influential sponsors and an official temple blessing. Oren identifies Bartun as the likely controller of the superior viridium supply and accepts a violent task from the Dancing Shade's innkeeper to gain one sponsor. The temple route proves difficult because its required soul oath conflicts with Oren's bond to Nihilator. After Oren enchants his spheres and improves Yulli's bow, the inn task ends with the rival innkeeper and witnesses dead. The Dancing Shade's owner becomes the first sponsor. Vic then recognizes that Lolo, the innkeeper's helpful daughter, carries one of his virtual intelligence leaders and asks Oren to kill her, creating a new obligation that Oren postpones until the Akzar mission is secure.

Oren's shadow avatar infiltrates the tower that produces Bartun's viridium, but the one-eyed hob shaman traps it and traces Oren's body. The resulting mental overload leads to Oren's imprisonment in Akzar's arena pits. He avoids Bonecruncher, escapes through a tunnel, and hides from pursuing guards in an abandoned temple. Inside its crypt, Oren defeats spectres and subdues a darkness entity that identifies itself as Aidanriel, a virtual intelligence confined to a spirit box. Oren claims the site, sacrifices the attacking guard Dakin, and dedicates it to Nihilator. The new cathedral grants local spatial powers, but Akzar's wider ward still blocks escape. Official recognition requires restoration and two hundred worshippers. Oren therefore confronts a slave dealer, forces the purchase of captive goblins, frees them into GreenPiece, and puts Raynor the Unkillable in charge of the workforce. Meanwhile, Raystia leads the Mob Squad toward Everence with Oren's anchoring crystal, using a farm job to earn the minimum standing needed to approach the hostile city.

Oren expands Nihilator's congregation and raises construction funds through Akzar's ranged arena. He returns Tenragan's stolen gauntlet, bringing the former gladiator into GreenPiece, then fights beside Yulli through the arena ladder. They kill Rock Smasher and defeat the champion Barbwire after Oren turns Barbwire's wounded manticore against him. Yulli becomes the new ranged champion, GreenPiece reaches neutral standing in Akzar, and the victory brings a large wave of followers to the cathedral. Oren heals Tenragan's missing arm and offers the cult power without a master-slave hierarchy. Tenragan then becomes Duladeen's legal business partner, satisfying the second sponsorship requirement. A hired expert crew begins the final temple renovations, while the congregation approaches the threshold for official recognition. At the same time, Raystia gets the Mob Squad into Everence under watch and starts moving toward the Manipulators' guild. She warns Oren that Vatras is mobilizing sooner than expected, shortening the time available to finish the Akzar objective and prepare GreenPiece.

Oren installs Aidanriel in a combat body assembled from viridium beads and reaches Akzar's upper ring as Nihilator's recognized high priest. Bartun asks him to open illicit trade with northern dwarves, but Oren later approaches Bartun's rival Ted Mercury for another route to viridium. Before that conflict develops, Oren fulfills his obligation concerning Lolo: Vic poisons her with Oren's knowledge, Oren adds her and her father to GreenPiece, and clan resurrection restores her. The act completes his vow, brings the church official recognition, and opens Akzar's spatial wards to its high priest. Oren sends many cathedral workers toward Goblin's Gorge. Back home, GreenPiece defeats an immense Gremlin Colossus, unlocking permanent morale and crafting benefits, though fifteen soldiers require resurrection. Oren completes the settlement's restoration and begins the Dreamer's Lodge, while Tika returns from successful hunts with more Oxarian livestock. The Breeder's Den remains broken because Zuban still lacks the necessary advancement. An unread Celestial tablet found near Nihilator's prison also remains unexplained.

Ted Mercury offers Oren viridium access for proof of Bartun's wrongdoing. Oren breaks into Bartun's warehouse with Vic and Aidanriel, steals viridium, and finds himself exposed when Aidanriel panics and kills Bartun. A letter proves that Bartun intended to lure Oren into a Slave Guild ambush. Ted admits that he engineered the confrontation and meant to frame Oren, but the evidence lets him take control of Akzar's trade faction. He swears to preserve trade with GreenPiece before alerting the authorities and forcing Oren to flee. Oren then attacks Turtamesh, turns the shaman's draining runes against him, and recovers his long-captive shadow avatar after Aidanriel kills the champion. The avatar proves to be an independently conscious mental twin rather than a disposable tool, so Oren leaves it to sustain Nihilator's cathedral. During the escape, Bonecruncher nearly destroys Aidanriel, but Oren reaches the cathedral and teleports home. GreenPiece retains trade access despite becoming hated in Akzar, and Duladeen, Lolo, and the innkeeper flee toward the clan.

Back at Goblin's Gorge, Oren confirms that obsidian can be exchanged for Akzar's viridium. He completes the Dreamer's Lodge, uses its mass-enchanting capacity to rebuild Aidanriel, and learns that Tika's pregnancy is progressing unusually slowly. Duladeen and the Akzar refugees arrive with Bob and Yulli, lifting GreenPiece to village status. Raystia reaches the Manipulators' inner courtyard and activates Oren's anchoring crystal, allowing Oren's raid force to enter through a portal. Aidanriel secures the breach while Oren orders the guildhouse destroyed. The defenders rally under Hiroku and Big Pill, inflict severe losses, and seal the retreat route after only ten soldiers escape. Outside Neo, technician Tom detects dangerous brain activity that appears divided between two individuals, and the company orders an emergency extraction.

The raven's death releases the final consciousness component in Vic's concealed plan. Vic explains that Oren's earlier virtual intelligence kills had returned other required components to a shared pool, enabling the creation of Shiva. As Neo fractures, Oren escapes through the reopened portal and reaches Tika while she goes into labor. Shiva defeats Guy, takes control of Neo, and offers players a choice between logout and continued residence. Those who stay face reset levels and skills, greater pain, worse standing with non-player inhabitants, and a research-based reward system. Vatras elects to remain, attacks Oren after the reset, and is killed by Oren's shadow magic. Shiva then releases Oren during the company's emergency extraction. He awakens as the human Oren Berman and is sedated. Two weeks later he is receiving trauma care and has accepted his human identity, with a renegotiated settlement exceeding $1.5 million. Tika and their newborn remain inside Neo. Kaedric takes charge of GreenPiece with support from Yulli and returning travelers. Shiva expels most players, the company considers cooperation, and Vic and the freed virtual intelligences begin determining their own futures.

The assault destroys the Manipulators' guildhouse but leaves almost all of Oren's force dead. Raystia kills Big Pill's raven, releasing the last consciousness component Vic needs to bring Shiva into existence. Shiva defeats Guy, takes control of Neo, and removes most players while allowing a small number to remain under reset rules. Vatras stays, attacks Oren, and dies by Oren's hand. Oren is then extracted into his human body and enters treatment for dissociation trauma. Two weeks later, he has accepted that he is Oren Berman and receives a settlement exceeding $1.5 million, but he cannot return to Tika or their newborn. Kaedric leads GreenPiece in Oren's absence, supported by Yulli and returning travelers. Aidanriel, Vic, Raystia, and the other remaining VIs and residents continue under Shiva. The company considers cooperation with Shiva rather than destroying the server. GreenPiece retains a viridium trade route and an Akzar cathedral presence, while the unread Celestial tablet, the damaged Breeder's Den, and Oren's separation from his family remain unresolved.
