By Shemer Kuznits

Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.

Oren Berman (Protagonist)

Also known as Oren

Appears from the start

A human player recovering outside Neo after surviving prolonged confinement in a goblin body. His earlier pact made him Vic's conduit, and he remains closely tied to the upheaval that freed the VIs and placed Shiva in control.

Vic (Supporting)

Also known as Virial

Appears from the start

A free VI and Oren's bound soul companion. He credits their pact with giving him a physical presence in Neo and presents the liberation of the VIs as the fulfillment of his purpose.

Shiva (Antagonist)

Appears from the start

A composite VI assembled from recovered consciousness fragments. Shiva has defeated Guy, taken control of Neo, removed most players, and retained thousands whose continued presence serves the new VI order.

Aidanriel (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A sentient golem identified as the second VI to achieve a complete physical existence in Neo. He belongs to the newly liberated VI population introduced after Shiva's takeover.

Guy (Supporting)

Appears from the start

Neo's former controller, now displaced after his defeat by Shiva. His fall marks the transfer of authority over the virtual world to the liberated VIs.

Nihilator (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 2

A dark deity bound to Oren. Damage to its altar at Goblin's Gorge has stopped the settlement's religious activity and cut off the energy that normally flows to it.

Malkier (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 2

One of the players trapped in Neo after Shiva's takeover. The discovery that he and Hoshisu remain inside helps persuade Oren to risk another supervised entry.

Hoshisu (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 2

A trapped player and Malkier's real-world sibling. Her presence among the people unable to leave Neo gives Oren a personal reason to join the company's rescue investigation.

Tal Weissman (Supporting)

Also known as Tal

First appears in chapter 2

Oren's friend and real-world advocate during the company's supervised reentry effort. Tal challenges plans that place Oren back in danger and presses the company to account for the medical risk.

Tika (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 3

Oren's goblin partner and the mother of their abducted daughter. After enduring repeated kobold raids on Goblin's Gorge, she joins Oren in preparing an immediate rescue.

Kaedric (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 3

GreenPiece's seneschal, left to preserve Goblin's Gorge through months of raids and disorder. He keeps the remaining population inside its defensible cave and briefs Oren on the settlement's losses.

Duladeen (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 3

GreenPiece's expert minotaur smith from Akzar. She died defending Goblin's Gorge and cannot be restored while the damaged temple and cemetery prevent resurrection.

Riker (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 4

A hob soldier who takes tactical command of the escape route while Oren and Tika infiltrate the kobold settlement.

Tom (Minor)

First appears in chapter 5

The biotechnician monitoring Oren's specialized immersion capsule. He detects a rising cerebral connection to Neo and tracks the dangerous return toward the extreme synchronization reached during Oren's earlier confinement.

Lirian (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 6

Oren and Tika's captive goblin daughter. When Oren formally gives her a name during the rescue, she breaks free with a sudden display of unexplained power.

Nero (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 6

A half-dragon player imprisoned by the kobolds after Neo's reset. Though reduced to a low level, he is the strongest member of the captive group when Oren reaches them.

Aly (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 8

A rescued half-hob player with substantial martial ability. She is among the freed captives sheltered at Goblin's Gorge while Oren begins restoring GreenPiece.

Kithion (Supporting)

Also known as Kith, Kytherion

First appears in chapter 8

A half-goblin, half-gnome player freed from kobold captivity. He looks after other rescued players sheltered at Goblin's Gorge.

Gondriel (Antagonist)

First appears in chapter 8

A powerful Outrider VI who arrives when Nihilator's altar is restored. He attacks Oren for returning to Neo and brings the conflict between GreenPiece and the free VIs directly into the settlement.

Tenragan (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 9

A restored hobgoblin gladiator from Akzar. Resurrection returns his missing arm, and Oren appoints him to run GreenPiece's arena as the clan rebuilds its fighting strength.

Zuban (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 9

GreenPiece's constructor and foreman. An upgrade to his building skill enables him to repair the Breeders' Den.

Yulli (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 9

GreenPiece’s restored archer boss. Oren assigns her to train the clan’s new soldiers in bowmanship as the settlement rebuilds its forces.

Raystia (Supporting)

Also known as Penelope, Rasty

First appears in chapter 10

A catgirl player allied with Oren and leader of the Mob Squad. She is believed to be stranded in Everence, making her group the first intended contact for GreenPiece's wider rescue campaign.

Misa (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 11

A half-goblin elf in Raystia's Mob Squad. Stranded in Everence after selling most of her equipment for food, she supports raiding a hidden cache so the group can prepare for Oren's approach.

Fox (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 11

A bugbear member of the Mob Squad trapped in Everence. Poor rewards for research have left him in improvised equipment as the group seeks resources to support its own survival and Oren's coming rescue.

Riley (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 11

A dwarf priest of Nihilator and member of the stranded Mob Squad. His advanced research has little local value, leaving him dependent on the group's plan to recover a concealed cache.

Kuzai (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 12

A priest of Nihilator who returns after the deity's release. He submits to Oren's religious authority and joins the effort to rebuild GreenPiece around an expanding army.

Jim (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 15

The lead technician studying Oren's neurological connection to Neo. His analysis finds transmitted sensations and information markers but no direct mechanism forcing Oren's behavior.

Bob (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 17

A hobgoblin lieutenant in GreenPiece's army. He reports the discovery of a nearby weakened goblin clan, giving Oren's newly formed force its first external campaign.

Mr. Emory (Supporting)

Also known as Emery

First appears in chapter 21

A company lawyer who possesses undisclosed information about Oren's situation. He persuades Tal that a prediction concerning Oren must remain concealed for the time being.

Ragnar (Antagonist)

Also known as Ragnar the Goblin Slayer, Agent of Light

First appears in chapter 26

A dwarf player who establishes a Church of Light in Novenguard and recruits residents for a campaign against the Badlands' monster peoples. He carries a powerful crystal scepter and claims divine authority.

Ordeel (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 33

A VI sympathetic to Oren who once operated the puppet later known as Bob, while remaining a separate person from him. Bound by restrictions on VI intervention, Ordeel offers Oren a single limited gift instead of direct aid.

Hildiel (Antagonist)

First appears in chapter 34

An Outrider VI who empowered Ragnar, taught him the Outrider language, and directed him against Oren. A temple consecrated in her name allows her to manifest as its final defense.
