The fifth entry in the Mark of the Fool series follows Alex as his expedition in Tameland's borderlands uncovers a startling ability: he can personally control a live, still-active dungeon core in ways his powerful mentor cannot. As more people around him prove capable of the same feat, the group races to understand what connects them, all while trying to keep the discovery from provoking the monstrous Ravener that has already begun treating each new discovery as a threat. Alongside the investigation, Alex helps his sister confront her fear of her own fire magic and works to protect a rescued magical tree now growing at the expedition's camp.
