Never Go Back

By Lee Child

The eighteenth entry in the Jack Reacher series finds Reacher traveling to Virginia to visit the headquarters of the 110th Military Police Special Unit, the outfit he once commanded, hoping to see its current commanding officer, Major Susan Turner. Before he can reach the base, two men posing as legal advisers try to intimidate him into leaving town, a confrontation Reacher ends easily but cannot explain. At the unit's offices he instead finds a temporary commander, Colonel Morgan, who tells him that Turner is gone, accuses him of a sixteen-year-old killing linked to a soldier's recent death, and formally recalls him to active duty.
