Paradise
Third in the Expeditionary Force series. Months after the occupying alien fleet retakes the colony world Paradise, its human population is reduced to guarded farming settlements, and returning hero Joe Bishop finds Earth's own authorities distrustful of both him and the ship AI Skippy after their last mission. Raiders begin targeting Paradise's fragile food supply, and evidence surfaces that a diplomatic deal could hand the planet's captive population back to hostile former occupiers, while on Earth a review confirms Bishop as the Flying Dutchman's captain under a newly appointed overseer. With a scientific team assembled and the mission's primary goal fixed on learning whether another alien force threatens Earth, the crew departs on an expedition that could also decide the fate of the humans stranded on Paradise.
