Promise of the Witch-King characters

By R.A. Salvatore

Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.

Artemis Entreri (Protagonist)

Appears from the start

A master assassin traveling far from Calimport after the apparent destruction of Crenshinibon. Artemis remains dangerous, controlled and skeptical of every alliance, but his partnership with Jarlaxle has begun to expose loyalties and desires that his old rivalry with Drizzt allowed him to deny.

Jarlaxle (Protagonist)

Appears from the start

The drow leader of Bregan D'aerthe, now roaming the Bloodstone Lands with Entreri in search of profit, rare magic and novelty. Jarlaxle gathers information behind several disguises and treats a dangerous expedition into the Witch-King's former realm as both employment and entertainment.

Calihye (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 3

A half-elf fighter attached to a band exploring Vaasa. Calihye is wary of Entreri's reputation and emotional distance, yet recognizes the discipline beneath his cold manner. Their mutual interest complicates an alliance already divided by secrets.

Athrogate (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 3

A powerful dwarf who fights with two enchanted morningstars and punctuates danger with rhyming boasts. Athrogate appears to be hired muscle within Commander Ellery's company, but his practical instincts and respect for formidable opponents make his loyalties difficult to predict.

Commander Ellery (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 3

An officer associated with the forces of the Bloodstone Lands who leads a mixed company into Vaasa. Ellery presents the mission as an effort to contain lingering dangers from Zhengyi's reign and expects the adventurers under her command to follow military discipline.

Mariabronne the Rover (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 4

A seasoned scout known for surviving the hostile country around the Galena Mountains and Vaasa. Mariabronne guides the expedition through terrain where the Witch-King's fall has not removed the monsters, ruins or old enchantments he left behind.

Canthan (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 4

A human wizard traveling with Ellery's company. Canthan contributes essential knowledge of the ruin's layered magic, while his reserve and private coordination with selected companions give Entreri reason to question whose purpose the expedition truly serves.

Arrayan Faylin (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 6

A half-orc spellcaster from Palishchuk whose study of Zhengyi's surviving magic leaves her dangerously connected to a structure taking shape in the wilderness. Arrayan is both an expert on the phenomenon and increasingly one of its victims.

Olgerkhan (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 6

A half-orc warrior of Palishchuk devoted to Arrayan. Olgerkhan joins the expedition because her magical decline is more urgent to him than treasure or official orders, and he measures every plan by whether it gives her a chance to survive.

Pratcus (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 7

A dwarven priest who brings healing, divine magic and a steadier moral purpose to the expedition. Pratcus quickly understands that the ruin is drawing life and power into itself, making rescue more important than any relic the company might recover.

Ilnezhara (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 8

One of two dragon sisters who maintain wealthy human identities in the Bloodstone Lands. Ilnezhara is intrigued by Jarlaxle's resourcefulness and has the age, magic and local knowledge to turn a request for recovered treasure into an obligation he cannot dismiss.

Tazmikella (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 8

Ilnezhara's sister and fellow dragon, equally capable of presenting charm or overwhelming force. Tazmikella views the remnants of the Witch-King's power as both dangerous and valuable and keeps a close interest in what Jarlaxle removes from Vaasa.
