Redemption
The seventh entry in the Omega Force series finds former captain Jason Burke hauling cargo with his battlesynth partner Lucky and drinking heavily since leaving his old command behind. When his ship is implicated in the disappearance of the Avarian Sovereign's daughter, he discovers a stowaway, Kalette, the missing heir's attendant, who slipped away from her kidnappers and hid in the cargo hold. Distrustful of the officials investigating the case, she stays with Jason and Lucky instead, while a flashback reveals how his former team, Omega Force, fractured after a botched rescue left his crewmate Crusher a prisoner, driving Jason to deceive his partner Kellea and defy his superior's orders to save him. With Crusher recovered but the group scattered, Lucky presses a reluctant Jason to help Kalette reach her people rather than keep hauling cargo.
