The Galactic Survey Team (Protagonist)

Appears from the start

Specialists drawn from several advanced species who travel to Earth in search of survivors. Their civilization has only recently detected humanity, so the speed of human technological development repeatedly overturns their expectations.

The Communications Specialist (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A member of the expedition responsible for interpreting the signals still coming from the abandoned planet. The continuing transmission offers the surface party its best clue to what humanity did before the disaster.

Humanity (Supporting)

Appears from the start

The inhabitants of Earth, discovered by the galactic civilization only when their sun is close to destruction. They are technologically young by galactic standards but have responded to extinction with an effort on an unexpected scale.
