Return of the Archon recap

After learning that Crusher is Galvetor's exiled Guardian Archon, Omega Force follows him to Restaria and frees his imprisoned mentor Fordix. The mission proves to be part of a larger scheme: the Phoenix is stolen, Doc and Twingo are tortured, and forged orders gather the Legions for a coup. Jason, Lucky, Mazer, and Kade recover the ship and captives while Kage and Morakar uncover the false mobilization. Fordix and the Praetores seize Galvetor's government after Connimon helps incapacitate Crusher, but Crusher survives and Omega Force retakes the Senate. Crusher kills Fordix, Mazer and Morakar kill the Praetores, and Kellea's Defiant drives away an unidentified supporting fleet. Crusher returns to Omega Force, Morakar enters the Senate, and Mazer commands a new Galvetic Marine company aboard Defiant. Twingo survives and rejoins the Phoenix, while Connimon and the coup's external backers remain missing and unidentified.

Previously: Several dangers from earlier missions remain unresolved. The original crew of the Phoenix is still missing, with no settled account of what happened to them. The wider question of whether synthetic beings are recognized as persons also remains open. Twingo continues to face exposure connected to a cartel. Elsewhere, Bondrass remains at large, as does a scientist who escaped from a genetics program. None of these continuing threats has been closed as the next Omega Force mission begins.

So far this book: Jason completes three months of physical enhancement on Aracoria, while Kage receives a new neural computer. When the Phoenix returns, Lucky, Crusher, and Twingo admit they entered the ship in a dangerous race and won a substantial purse. The reunited crew travels to Colton Hub in search of work. There, Jason and Crusher are drawn into an ambush by predators using a disguised adult as bait. Jason's altered reflexes prove lethally powerful, showing that he has not yet learned the limits of his new body. Soon afterward, a gelten emissary and two Galvetic warriors confront Crusher and address him as Galvetor's exiled Guardian Archon, Lord Felex Tezakar. The revelation exposes a high-ranking identity that Crusher had never shared with his crewmates. He orders the visitors back to the Phoenix, where their urgent purpose can be discussed away from the station.

So far this book: The emissary identifies herself as Connimon Helick and explains that Galvetor is approaching civil war. Felex remains Guardian Archon despite his exile, but he initially refuses to return. He changes course after learning that Fordix, his mentor and paternal figure, is among the senior Legion leaders imprisoned on Galvetor. Jason places Omega Force at Crusher's disposal, and the Phoenix makes a concealed trip to Restaria. In Ker, a neutral city shared by rival Legion territories, Felex confronts warriors who attempt to exclude Jason and publicly reasserts his authority. Connimon then brings him before the Archon's Fist, a secret order led by Praetores Fostel, Zetarix, and Mutabor. The order claims Fordix founded it to preserve unity among the Legions after Felex's departure. Believing Fordix may have been caught through a compromised informant or deliberate trap, Felex commits Omega Force to extracting him from Casguard Prison.

So far this book: Omega Force joins an Archon's Fist team for a covert entry to Galvetor, leaving Doc and Twingo with the Phoenix. Meluuk provides local transport, and Jason, Crusher, Lucky, Kage, Morakar, and Mazer penetrate Casguard Prison. Jason and Crusher remove Fordix through underground control passages while their allies create diversions, allowing the party to escape without authorities identifying the rescuers. An unusually advanced combat shuttle supplied by the order deepens Jason's doubts about its resources. Mazer quietly shares those concerns, although Morakar remains loyal to the Praetores. On returning to Restaria, Jason's group finds the Phoenix gone. An abandoned scanner, a destroyed weapon, and evidence that its guns fired show that the ship did not leave normally. Doc and Twingo have disappeared with it. Jason, Lucky, Kage, and Mazer hide the loss from the Archon's Fist while they begin a private search.

So far this book: Kage traces the missing Phoenix to a Legion salvage vessel. Connimon separately warns that armed units are concentrating around Ker. Jason, Lucky, and Mazer intercept the returning carrier, whose captain, Kade Trask, says his crew delivered the Phoenix and its two captives alive under regular orders. Kade guides them to a hostile planet, where they find the gunship disabled inside a mountain facility. The team infiltrates the site, frees Doc and Twingo, and returns them to the Phoenix. Doc has a broken arm but can still work; Twingo is critically injured after refusing to surrender the ship's access codes. While Doc begins emergency treatment, Jason attempts to restart the ship with failing reserve power. On Restaria, masked attackers raid Kage's safe house, forcing him into hiding. Separately, Morakar begins doubting the Archon's Fist and warns Crusher that the troop buildup may be intended for political use. Crusher directs Morakar to investigate and report only to him.

So far this book: Jason restores enough power to the Phoenix to escape the underground facility, taking the injured Doc and Twingo with him. Meanwhile, Kage, Morakar, and Meluuk discover that forged orders bearing Crusher's name have assembled combat units and landers for a real operation. Crusher recruits Lieutenant Zellon as a confidential source and confronts Fordix. Connimon immobilizes Crusher with a neural device, allowing Fordix to disclose his plan to use the unified Legions to overthrow Galvetor's elected government. Fordix stabs Crusher and leaves him impaled as the coup begins. Kage and Morakar find him alive and disable the device without triggering its lethal safeguard. The recovered Phoenix returns to Restaria, where Doc removes the blade and repairs Crusher's wounds. News confirms that Fordix and the Praetores have occupied Galvetor's capital and detained its government. Once Crusher regains consciousness and names Fordix as his attacker, Omega Force prepares to retake the capital. Doc and Meluuk remain behind to protect the still-recovering Twingo.

This book ends with the Phoenix carrying Jason, Crusher, Lucky, Kage, Mazer, and Morakar into coup-held Galvetor. After destroying the Eshquarian shuttles defending the capital, the team enters the Senate chamber. The Legionnaires obey Crusher's command to stand down. Crusher kills Fordix in single combat, while Mazer and Morakar kill Praetores Fostel, Zetarix, and Mutabor. Crusher ends the unauthorized operation and offers to help the restored Senate establish a new relationship with the warrior class. A fleet arriving in support of Fordix withdraws when Kellea brings the battlecruiser Defiant, leaving its identity unresolved. Two weeks later, Galvetor and Restaria have begun negotiations and removed travel restrictions. Of the warriors wishing to leave, 122 form a Marine company aboard Defiant under Mazer, now a captain. Crusher appoints Morakar as the warrior representative in the Senate, declines continued Archon leadership, and returns to Omega Force. Twingo survives his injuries and rejoins the Phoenix while recovering. Connimon has vanished, and her connection to the abduction, attacks, and coup remains unclear when the crew departs.

Fordix and the Praetores seize Galvetor's capital, but Omega Force returns with the recovered Phoenix and stops the coup. Crusher survives Fordix's attack and kills him in the Senate chamber, while Mazer and Morakar kill Fostel, Zetarix, and Mutabor. Kellea arrives aboard Defiant, causing the unidentified fleet supporting Fordix to withdraw. Galvetor and Restaria begin negotiating a new political relationship and lift restrictions on travel. Crusher refuses to remain Guardian Archon and rejoins Omega Force. Morakar becomes the warrior class's Senate representative, while Mazer takes command of 122 Galvetic warriors serving as Marines aboard Defiant. Twingo survives his captivity and returns to the Phoenix while still recovering. Connimon has disappeared, and neither her full purpose nor the identity of Fordix's outside supporters is resolved. The organizer behind the Phoenix's theft and the attacks on its crew also remains uncertain when the restored Omega Force departs.
