Road of the Patriarch characters

By R.A. Salvatore

Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.

Artemis Entreri (Protagonist)

Appears from the start

A master assassin newly altered by the shadow essence drawn through his vampiric dagger. Entreri is physically renewed but emotionally unsettled, traveling with Jarlaxle while trying to decide whether his connection to Calihye and his partner's concern are genuine bonds or new forms of control.

Jarlaxle (Protagonist)

Appears from the start

The resourceful leader of Bregan D'aerthe and Entreri's longtime partner. Jarlaxle returns from the Witch-King's ruins carrying relics, obligations and several plans at once. He is increasingly interested in healing the wounds that shaped Entreri, even when doing so requires manipulation Entreri would never permit openly.

Calihye (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A half-elf warrior who survived the expedition into Zhengyi's ruin and formed a guarded relationship with Entreri. Calihye wants an intimacy he does not know how to offer, while the deaths and betrayals of their last company remain unresolved between them.

Athrogate (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A formidable dwarf armed with the enchanted morningstars Cracker and Whacker. Athrogate has broken from his former employers and now treats Jarlaxle's schemes as a source of profitable battles, though his rough humor conceals a clear sense of when a cause has become indefensible.

Gareth Dragonsbane (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 2

The paladin king of Damara and hero who helped overthrow Zhengyi. Gareth is responsible for keeping the Witch-King's former realm from becoming a threat again, and he regards Jarlaxle's private expedition, recovered magic and trail of dead companions as matters requiring an accounting.

Ilnezhara (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 3

One of the dragon sisters who sponsored and monitored Jarlaxle's search for relics in Vaasa. Ilnezhara combines cultivated manners with the expectation that bargains made with a dragon will be honored exactly, especially when the prize may shift power in the Bloodstone Lands.

Tazmikella (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 3

Ilnezhara's equally powerful sister. Tazmikella shares her interest in the magic Jarlaxle recovered and is prepared to use draconic force if his evasions turn an agreement into theft.

Kane (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 6

A legendary monk and trusted champion of King Gareth. Kane's discipline and ability make him one of the few individuals Jarlaxle cannot treat as a predictable obstacle, while his calm judgment keeps the king's response focused on the true danger in Vaasa.

Celedon Kierney (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 7

Damara's master of intelligence and a close agent of King Gareth. Celedon follows motives and alliances more readily than displays of force, making him a natural counter to Jarlaxle's disguises and staged conflicts.

Knellict (Antagonist)

First appears in chapter 11

The leader of the Citadel of Assassins and a surviving power from Vaasa's violent past. Knellict treats the instability around Jarlaxle's new fortress as a chance to reclaim influence, unaware that the apparent opportunity may have been designed to draw his organization into the open.

Kimmuriel Oblodra (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 10

Bregan D'aerthe's psionicist and Jarlaxle's most independent lieutenant. Kimmuriel brings mental communication, concealment and disciplined drow forces to the surface operation, but he also recognizes when his leader's personal concern for Entreri is distorting an otherwise practical plan.
