By R.A. Salvatore

Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.

Drizzt Do'Urden (Protagonist)

Appears from the start

A dark elf ranger who sets out with the Companions of the Hall after learning that Wulfgar survived beyond the point where his trail seemed lost. Drizzt wants to recover his friend without forcing him back into the identity and relationships he fled.

Catti-brie (Protagonist)

Appears from the start

Bruenor's adopted daughter and Drizzt's partner, armed with the powerful bow Taulmaril. She joins the search for Wulfgar with concern for the man he is now rather than an expectation that their former engagement can be restored.

Bruenor Battlehammer (Supporting)

Appears from the start

The dwarf king of Mithral Hall and Wulfgar's foster father. Bruenor responds to news of his missing son with direct action, bringing the endurance, authority and stubborn loyalty that have held the companions together through earlier losses.

Regis (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A halfling companion whose caution, underworld experience and enchanted ruby pendant balance the more martial members of the search party. Regis is especially useful when Wulfgar's trail passes through Luskan's taverns and criminal networks.

Guenhwyvar (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 2

Drizzt's intelligent black panther companion, summoned through an onyx figurine. Guenhwyvar scouts hostile ground and remains one of the few allies able to follow Drizzt wherever the hunt leads.

Captain Deudermont (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 5

The principled captain of the Sea Sprite and an old ally of the companions. His knowledge of Luskan and the Sword Coast's pirates helps distinguish what happened to Wulfgar from the crimes and accusations attached to his name.

Morik the Rogue (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 6

A Luskan thief and Wulfgar's friend during his lowest period. Morik knows how the barbarian lost his place in the city and can point the companions toward both Wulfgar's later road and the people who profited from his missing warhammer.

Sheila Kree (Antagonist)

First appears in chapter 8

A pirate leader operating from a concealed coastal stronghold. Sheila has gathered dangerous allies and taken possession of Aegis-fang, making her organization the target of both Wulfgar and the companions searching for him.

Wulfgar (Protagonist)

First appears in chapter 10

A towering barbarian trying to build a life with Delly and the infant Colson after leaving Auckney. He remains troubled by Errtu's imprisonment and by the loss of Aegis-fang, but caring for the child has given him a reason to master impulses he once tried to drown in drink.

Delly Curtie (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 10

A woman from Luskan who chose to help Wulfgar care for Colson. Delly has no illusions about his nightmares or temper, yet offers him a practical family life based on present responsibilities rather than his fame among the companions.

Colson (Minor)

First appears in chapter 10

The infant Wulfgar took from Auckney to protect Meralda from the consequences surrounding her birth. Colson depends on Wulfgar and Delly, and that dependence anchors him to choices that cannot be abandoned after a bad night.

Le'lorinel (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 12

An elf warrior who enters Sheila Kree's company under an assumed identity and displays an unusually focused interest in news of Drizzt. Le'lorinel presents as another dangerous recruit while keeping the reason for joining the pirates private.
